What is the shelf life of a lye relaxer?

I don't know the actual answer to that, but being as though stylist use Lye Relaxers, and purchase them in large tubs, I would say the shelf life has to be very long.

Don't they come with expiration dates on them??? If not, my guess would be 6 months to a year depending on how you store them.

I know that I personally purchase no-lye Mizani in bulk and always keep it in cool, dark places (i.e. like my closet).

Surprisingly the shelf life of relaxers is around 3 years. You have to make sure to keep the lid on very tight so it will remain potent.

I keep mine in the refridgerator. I saw my friends mother do it years ago, and I have been doing it every since. It made sense to me, seeing that cold slows the molecular breakdown.

I've had my Mizani Butter Blends Lye Relaxer in the bag that it came in with the other Butter Blends products. It's probably been in there since last Spring.

I will finally relax again this coming weekend after 5 months. Can I use the relaxer or is it no longer any good, since I didn't refrigerate it? I hope that I don't have to buy another tub of relaxer. That stuff is so expensive.
