What is the difference between dusting, trimming and cutting?

How much has to be snipped before a trim is a cut?

And explain dusting v. trimming to me.

Thanks!

I think dusting is more of the seek and destroy method...Most of my head won't have split ends, but I'll search throughout the hair for the very beginnings of a split end and dust them off...it's probably no more than an 1/8th of an inch...I guess trimming can constitute for as much as an inch and anything more than that I would consider a cut

Dusting is where you snip off just the tips. Basically you're just grazing the ends. For example.....I just put my hair in a ponytail and dust off the tiniest bit of the ends. You won't notice any length gone because you are only cutting the tiniest bit of hair.

Seek and Destroy is where you search through your whole head looking at each individual hair and if you find a split just trim it off. You won't loose any length this way.

Trimming, IMO is anything more than a dusting. It can be from half a centimeter to several inches of hair depending on what you need taken off.

ITA :yep:

I think a cut is just wildn' out with a totally different style or length than when you first walked into the salon.
