No Lindy.

My hair was near bra-strap earlier this year, but I hacked it down to chin length in March. So to be honest, this didn't feel like a drastic cut to me.

My mother HATES the fact that my hair is short. HATES it.

I was surprised no one bad-mouthed me at church...yet.

I only got one comment from this older lady. She saw me walking past and said "Come here" and had me bend down and she started rubbing through it.

Then she says, "It looks really nice. But, I liked it better when it was longer. So, are you experimenting?"

I explained to her I had to cut it, I just didn't cut it for no reason at all. She felt kinda stupid and was like "Oh, but it looks REALLY good."

But everyone likes it at work, or so they say.

I'll take that.

Have you seen a pic of what you want?
See - my problem is just what I said in my post. Everytime I have gotten my haircut, I never got what I went in there wanting so I gave up and decided to just have straight even hair. But now I'm thinking - geez, I'm going to lose a lot of my length over the next few years..I may as well benefit from the length loss by having a cool haircut to go along with it, ya know?

I'm gonna search around for some pictures. I am scheduled for a trim in 2 weeks. If I have a picture, maybe I can see what she thinks, then evaluate her confidence and make an appointment later after I think about it more!!

I want this cut Hairlove...

But longer. I only want about an inch, no more than 2 off my longest layer right now. But this is the shape I want.

Any length(halle berry cuts to layered waist lengths are all fine to mention).....

Who did it? How did you find the stylist? How did you know it was a good cut, and did you know before the stylist was done that it would be a goodie?

I'm getting a hair cut and I need optimistic stories...

The best cut that I have ever had was a layed bob and very short Halle layers. Both were done by my cousin. She is a stylist and does platform for Isoplus.

The best haircut I ever got was waaaaay back in the 80's when I was in high school and stacks were in. My hair was asymmetrical and almost mid-back in the back and almost shoulder length on one side (yeah, I had a LOT of lengths going on!) I sat in that chair and my hair was flyin'! I felt like one of those ladies in Edward Scissorhands! My stacks were da bomb!!!! Everybody wanted my hair at school!

I was gonna say it's a toss-up between a super-short Halle/pixie cut and a chin-length bob I got...but I'm gonna have to say the bob (cuz it left me with some hair and a little more versatility)
Good luck with whatever you decide Tracy!

At this point, I don't really want to. I'd like to maintain it, but PLEASE don't tell my mother that.

The best haircut I ever had was when I had my hair cut in a short Bob.

My hair stylist at the time did it (back in 1999).

I found my hairstylist (back then) by a referral from a good friend.

I knew it was a good cut because I liked it, AND because it was nice and even all the way around.

I knew it would be good before the stylist was done because she had cut my good friend's hair several times prior to me getting mine cut.

Best cut:
Back in 2000, I got a layered cut that looked just like mary j. blige's (when she use to rock that golden caramel weave)

Who did it?
A celebrity stylist by the name of Kiyah Wright. Honey was DA BOMB!!!!! She moved to Cali tho hence no more cuts for me
frown.gif

How did you find the stylist?
One day i was browsing thru Essence Magazine (the one with elise neal on the cover) and i was LOVING her hair cut and as i went further into the magazine, i saw a pic of Mary (and her cut) so i checked the credits, saw kiyah's name and the salon she worked for and called them ASAP.

How did you know it was a good cut, and did you know before the stylist was done that it would be a goodie?
I knew it was a goodie b/c i watched her from start to finish and with each slice of that razor, my hair was banging. Esp. when she got that barrel iron out and gave me those little 'wisps' i was in
love.gif
also, i knew it was a keeper (and she was too) b/c she told me my hair would b too flat the next morning (for my babyshower) so she told me to come back in and she would style it for FREE!!!

Wow these are wonderful positive stories you guys. Keep em coming!

LOL @ aikiia...how did you find your person to give you a haircut? What's your cut? What made you decide to do it?

Allandra - I do mean a cut sweets but not to worry. It's mostly for shape. Check out the Mandy Moore pic. The more I look at that pic the more I want that cut. I want to see if I can find where where she'd grown it out for a little bit so it's a tad longer. If anyone sees it please post it for me!

Tracy,

I had seen my stylist cut hair and i was impressed so it went for it. My hair is cut in layers, longer in the front and the tapers off at the crown and is ultra short at the back . It looks like fantasia(from American Idols) just a longer version of that. I decided to cut mainly cos a semi permanent color that really dried my hair out and ends were looking really bad.

Oooh, I remember my Halle Berry cut. The cut itself took various forms as I slowly became addicted to going shorter and shorter. I also changed stlyist once I went away to college. As far as how I chose the stlyist, pure luck. The salon was only 2 blocks from my college and she gave discounts for students. The absolute best cut she did was Valentine's Day of 96. It was so shiny and I could kind of do a little spikey thing on top. Sometimes (especially in the dog days of summer)when I see women with cute short cut I just want to hack it off.

My freshman year in college I came in with hair that hung a little past my shoulder (like most of my friends) but I wanted a change to be different. Spring break came around and I planned to get a drastic cut to surprise everyone when I came back. I really wanted a Halle Berry but I knew I would regret having it that short later. So I went to my stylist and told her to keep the front long and cut the back shorter (yall remember those cuts). Well that's exactly what she did but she cut more off than I expected and I made the sincere mistake of calling her "scissor happy" right in the salon with everyone there. Needless to say, it really was a great cut and everyone LOVED it because it fit my face. The only person who didn't like it was my ex who liked longer hair. However, that was the last time I went to her.

Thank you SO MUCH Poetess!

That first pic is exactly what I imagine...maybe with the layers a little less choppy...but that's almost exactly it!!!

I've never really had a haircut because I cut it myself since a number of years. And since my hair is natural, there are really no two days when my hair look the same. I just keep it one length mostly.
