What is dusting your ends?

I'm new to the board and amazed by all of the responses and advice given. I recently heard the term "dusting ends" before and I'm not quite sure how to do it. Can someone let me know the steps? The stylist just cut my hair in layers 9 weeks ago. So, I want to maintain the style but keep the ends healthy too.

It's like cutting a miniscule amount off the ends = an amount less than the average trim.
