I'm still getting used to all the technical info. on the boards. I'm wondering what is a pre-poo? How do you do it? Has it helped you? Any tips? Which products are best?

I asked this question in another thread but long forgot which thread I asked it in, so just started a new one. Thanks everyone for sharing your wisdom :user:

Prepoo = pre-shampoo treatment.

You can use oils or conditioner (or both) for this. You add your prepoo of choice to dry hair, let it sit, then shampoo it out. You can deep condition afterwards.

I personally deep condition my hair this way (I add the DC to dry hair, let sit, then shampoo out, no DC afterwards). It saves time and I don't have to hop in & out of the shower. Sometimes, if my new growth is a little unruly, I'll do a "straight" prepoo with oils, then shampoo and DC afterwards. I've only done that a couple of times, though.

thanks. this is a process that I'm totally unfamiliar with. But it must work since so many of the ladies on the board use it. So I will try it.

the main reason people pre-poo is to protect their hair from the harsh detergents of shampoo. shampoos can strip and dry out the hair. so by applying a protective coat w/oil, condish, or both, it adds a barrier.

OH YEA! My hair loves them! It doesn't like detergent. :nono: When I do use it, I have to dilute it heavily. My hair loves pre-poos and co-washes. Actually most of the time I don't poo after my pre-poo; I just co-wash.
