was the question I got from a special "friend" when I walked into his apartment while he hugged me. :lachen: I lied and told him I had been playing in the rain earlier.. not that I seriously messed up trying to do this style. I attempted a wash-n-go on my bone-straight relaxed hair. I obviously need HELP!!! I have JF Dream Curls & Garneir Fructis curl construct mousse. Ladies please tell me how to use them to get the cute wash-n-go and not the  I got today!!!

If you hair is relaxed bone straight, you won't get any curls or waves.

That's what I thought to until I read a thread where it had worked for relaxed ladies. I had waves, I just couldn't get them really cute. I just can't find the thread now... I was wondering if any of those ladies can help me out now.

This is from a really old thread. Tracy posted it and she gives very detailed instructions:

My hair is the same texture as yours Chaya and yes, I leave with springy bouncy curls if I do it just this way.... I made a few minor changes...just for clarity....

The primary ingredients for a natural looking curl on relaxed hair are:

conditioner
Styling Cream
Curl spray
Serum

Some people may not need the styling creme and the curl spray togther. I can do without the styling creme, or the spray in a pinch for instance - but not both.

The products I use to achieve my curl vary, but for the most part I use the following:

Any leave in or lightweight rinse out conditoner will do. Lately, I've had fab results with Sebastian Moisture Base. Again, any conditioner that you like that isn't too heavy and doesn't have too many cones will work. I wouldn't go for instance with a cholesterol conditioner.

I religiously use and will never give up John Frieda Dream Curls. That's the curl spray that does the trick on my hair. A good gel that has a similar purpose is KMS curling balm. Either will effect the same results - to encourage and hold the curl in the hair minus crunch (a determining factor for me). If you have a hard time with the sprays and gels some people's hair responds better to non-alcohol mousse. John Frieda's Frizz Ease line has one that is superior. Point? You need something to encourage the curl.

The styling cremes (I like Salon Selectives Loosely Defined and my favorite is L'oreal UnFrizz Taming Creme) are optional but they give a nice finished look and some control if your hair tends to get too big as it dries.

The serum is key. I've experimented a lot and you need a good thick one. I like Keracare's Silken Seal. It should go after the conditioner and the creme's but before the spray. The product encouraging the curl should be the last to go on.

The rest is in the technique. I lightly wrap a towel around my head after washing just so it's not soaking wet. A minute or two - tops. Then I apply a tablespoon size of conditioner (mostly to the last 3 inches of my hair) and the styling creme if I'm using one. Then I tie my edges with a satiny rectangular shaped scarf (I mention the shape only because it should extend back toward the crown only about 2-3 inches - otherwise the top of the hair will be flat). I leave the scarf on until it's mostly dry and to the the area that's left free I apply the curl spray liberally and then the serum.

Then I DO NOT TOUCH IT, DO NOT TOUCH IT, DO NOT TOUCH IT (can you tell this is important? ) until it's 75% dry. It should feel slightly damp but mostly dry to the touch. At that point I lightly gather just the tips of my hair in my fists and squeeze gently. That helps encourage the curl on the strands that aren't going with the flow. It helps to bend over and let gravity help separate the strands from one another to give a nice, full appearance

The key to a successful wash and go is to apply products on wet hair (leave-in conditioner, mositurizer, oil or serum) shake your hair with your head downwards. Then airdry. No scrunching. At least for me, less manipulation is key. When it's almost dry then I set the curls the way I want them.

How do you apply your products? I scrunch gently to distribute my leave-in, serum, etc. But, too much scrunching does cause my hair to get frizzy.

It all depends on how I want my hair to look. If I want it to have more volume then after I rinse my 2-1 shampoo I then use a VO5 conditioner put on plastic cap while I continue my shower. As soon as I finish my shower I run to the kitchen sink and rinse the conditioner out. As soon I rinse the conditioner out I hold my head down and apply some Suave conditioner ( coconut/lavender/milk and honey), leave in conditioner (Fantasia IC or african royale) followed by some serum (Fantasia Ic/Razac for perm) or oil (any carrier oil). I just slightly glide the products over my hair with my hands, no scrunching, sectioning or combing. After applying all the products with my head down, I shake, shake, shake and shake with my head in a downward position. After shaking, I proceed to get dressed while my hair airdries. If it's not almost dry before I leave my home then I use my diffuser for a few seconds.

If I want less volume then I rinse the conditioner out in the shower not in the sink. Apply each product by gently gliding my hands over my hair in this order (suave conditioner, leave-in, mositurizer, oil/serum) mostly the ends and front of my hair with my head in a normal postion and shake, shake shake and shake. Sometimes I bend over back and forth. :look: :ohwell:  Then I airdry.

Girl, we are so in the same boat. I read that thread, too. I got all excited at the thought that I might be able to do a wash 'n go. But when I did mines, it was a HOT MESS. I got lots of waves, with straight ends, and no curls. So, I started trying to look for the thread again. But when I saw your post, that made me look even harder for it. And guess what.......I found it. I think the post that you are referring to (the one that mentioned Dream Curls and Garnier Fructis Curl Construct) was written by lkg4healthyhair and starts on page 2. If your around, girl, please chime in. Here it is: http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=54490&highlight=curl+construct

I think I may have used too many products for my hair to turn out right the first time. But, after I read heathyhair's other thread that mentioned Curl Construct in addition to Dream Curls, I decided to give it a second try. So, I went out and bought Curl Construct, hoping maybe that would make a difference. I am trying to hold out until Wednesday (co-wash day) before I try it again. So, we'll see how it works.

I did mines last night, I couldn't wait. It started off cute, but then I think I keep messing with it too much. I did my normal shampoo thing. Then I used NTM Silk Touch, PM Super Skinny Serum, Dream Curls, and Garnier Curl Construct. I began to scrunch, and my hair started to do a lot more than it did the last time I tried. I wasn't sure WHAT it was doing, but it was doing something.

I started to see that my hair was getting a little tangled in the middle. Then I realized I forgot to comb it out first. I was too excited. So, I started combing it out. I figured this would probably mess everything up, but I'd rather have a messed up style than tangled hair. I wasn't going anywhere anyway. Okay, so after I combed it out, I put the Curl Construct in again, and I began to scrunch again. Everything seemed to be going well again. When I looked in the mirror, if I saw hair that was straight at the ends, I scrunched to make it wave. (I think that's what it was doing). I totally disregarded the "Do Not Touch" warnings!!!

And basically, I think that entire second paragraph messed up the style. LOL!!!:lachen:

So, what did you do MsDanele??
