without making the hair hard or crunchy?

i use a setting lotion that is good for texturing and making the hair look str8. but it makes it hard.

i see some use water but their rollersets still does not look str8 and korean slick. what do you use that give you that slick str8 look?

I know it's probably against all LHCF advice, but I LOVE Black n Sassy Creme Set.

ETA: NO matter how much I put on my hair is never crispy like it is with lottabody (unless I severly dilute it).

does it give it a shine and texturizes some? i've seen some rollersets that have no life and still have that texlaxed look. i don't want that. i want my sets to have a slick smooth almost flatironed appearance on the roller. but not be crispy.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO, (lol). I'm 2/3 natural and I look like I have a relaxer with lots of body, which pleases my family and my Mr.

My hair is shiny, but I do add a little bit of Ojon Restorative and flat iron the roots around the front edges and parts around any part that i have.

I use a mix of heavily diluted lottabody (1 part lottabody and 5 parts water) and a capful of SAA in a 24 oz spray bottle!

My hair does not come out hard.

I use Salerm 21 as my leave-in. Then add serum.

Then in a spray bottle I mix, Mizani setting lotion (just a little), Salerm 21(just a squeeze), and water.

Makes it sooooo easy to smooth onto the roller!

I use Creme of Nature Rollerset Sheen and it gives me a SHINE that is banging. If I use too much it is hard though, so my best bet is to use it on dripping wet hair. That way it comes out shiny and soft. My ends sometimes frizz up though and I have to touch those up. My roots look fine for the first six week so of my texlax. That's right, my texlaxed hair rollersets really well. So relaxed hair should be GREAT!

I hope this helps. :drunk:

My only complaint is that sometimes my hair feels dry, but looks shiny, like by day 3 of wearing it out. So I'm always tempted to wash it again. I'm using way less product on the wash though for real.

thank you ladies. i'll try some of these keep the receipts in case they don't work and see which one doesn't get hard but gives me a straight texture and high shine.

That sounds like a great idea - adding SAA to Lottabody -

I use lottabody as well and Lacio Lacio or Joico K-Pak Liquid Leave In Reconstructor

I use motions setting foam and I spoke with my stylist about how I don't like hard hair after the set dries when I do it myself. She told me to put 1 part foam liquid and 2 parts water in a spray bottle b/c the foams and lotions can be concentrated....every since she gave me that tip no matter if i airdry or bonnett dry my sets are straight shiney and my hair is not hard or crunchy...HTH

Last night I did my first roller set on my own! It came out wonderful!! :Copy of 2cool: Usually my mom rollersets my hair, or the salon does it, but since my mom moved outta state and I don't trust salons I did it myself. My mom usually uses lottabody setting lotion on me, but I'm not a big fan of that b/c it tends to make my hair crunchy in spots. What worked for me was after I got outta the shower and washed my hair I applied a generous amount of NTM Silk-Touch leavin in. Then I combed that through my hair with a wide tooth comb and then i started to roll. So while I was roller setting I constantly saturated each section with plain ole tap water in a spray bottle. Then after all the rollers were in place I diluted in water 3 generous squirts of Maxius Beyond Straight, the heat protectant that came with my maxiglide, in the spray bottle. Then I sprayed ever inch of my hair with the beyond striaght water solution. I got under my Gold N' Hot Bonnet dryer until the hair was completely dry. Since this was my first time I was really excited to take out the rollers, and lo and behold is was salon worthy! I took a little bit of my Africa's Best Oil and ran it through my hair. The curls were bouncing! :bouncy: But I wanted striaght hair, so I just wrapped it up, but on a cap and then a scarf on top and went to sleep. My hair was sooo smooth and I am 4 and half months post! I used magnetic rollers of various size and the 2 prong clips. This was my 1st time using the 2 prongs and I like them better because they don't leave the crease the rollercovers leave.

this is almost exactly what i do. except i use a tiny amount of NTM Silk Touch and a tiny amount of Fantasia IC serum. I think the key for silky rollersets is to make sure each section is detangled AND to smooth each section down before putting it on the roller. So...I usually put in my NTM and serum, then part my little section, spray it liberally with water, comb from the ends up w/ rattail, then take my fingers and smooth down that section and put on roller. I think that the smoothing down is key - not only for the cutest rollersets but also to seal the cuticle.

also - have you tried to do a final rinse w/ cold water? that makes my rollersets come out great but i find that my hair is considerably more tangled while im rolling so sometimes I opt to not do it.

Isoplus wrap lotion with a little bit of Chi Silk Infusion gives beautiful shiny rollersets!

Each section of hair really needs to be saturated and placed flat on the roller. It can be tricky, but try to ensure that you don't have too much hair on the roller and try to make each section as even as possible.

For shine I blast my hair with very cold water when rinsing out the conditioner, this gives me lovely shine every time. I've just finished a set and I used diluted Lacio lacio and castor oil. The curls are defined and silky.

Yes smoothing the hair is a must!!!!!! I first detangled all my hair with a wide tooth shower comb, then I use progressively smaller and closer teeth rattail combs to smooth the hair, and lastly I smoothed the hair with a boar bristle brush. I do rinse with cold.... Well what I do is while I'm rinsing I gradually turn the dial closer to full blast cold. The gradual change in temperature helps my skin get used to the cold, so then I turn the full blast cold on. The key to not getting tangled hair is comb your hair down with a wide tooth shower comb and then stand directly under the shower. Stand striaght up. When I tried to tilt my body so only my head was under the freezing cold stream of water, the hair got tangled.

i mk sure it's flat on the roller. the setting lotion i use makes it lk like str3 korean hair. but it's hard. if i can find something that mks it that str8 and shiny without the hardness then I"m in business. i see some with rollersets that lk like they have flat ironed that hair. but it's soft. not hard.

The Seran Wrap Method, has this effect, wrapping your hair in seran wrap after a rollerset and getting back under the dryer for ten to fifteen minute, and WA LA!

It's the setting lotion that leaves your hair hard. The primary function of s/lotion is to provide hold for longer lasting curls. If you stop using it you'll have softer hair. :yep:

So far Brocato Cloud 9 Blowout Miracle Repair Blowdry Serum. I just started using this but I'm loving it.

I have a new mix!!!!

I usually have to spray oil sheen on my hair after roller setting to get that nice shiny look.

NO MORE!!!!!

After reading through some other threads, I made a new mix yesterday.

In the 24oz bottle: 6 oz. lottabody, 2 oz. EVOO, one cap of SAA, and the rest water!!! My rollerset came out great.

I had been avoiding sealing with oil because I am kind of heavy handed and my hair would end up an oily mess. But applying it like this worked really really well. I am probably going to reduce the EVOO to 1.5 oz. next time because my hair is extremely fine. But I didn't have to use the oil sheen this time and my hair is shiny and still held the curl well.

One warning... you will have to keep shaking the spray bottle to keep it mixed because the EVOO kept rising to the top!
