yeah you can also check out Den1's album she has modified the plan...i followed her way of doing it...the plus is not having alot of comb out when removing braids....

I'm digging this 20 minute video on her site on how to braid hair. I need ot learn so bad ya'll it aint even funny!! I just do not feel like paying somebody to braid my hair. The prices are just too absurd for me. If I'm gonna pay some chick more than my car payment to braid my hair I'd ought to get a new car...just saying. If I'm balling like that.... Lol!

that was my motivation for learning how to braid my own hair. The woman told me what she charged and I said bump that I ran to the hair store got my own hair and got work, My first individuals were a HAM but I kept working with them and wore those bad boys for 2 months. the funny thing I didn't know how to pull the bulk hair apart from the middle. SO I was grabing hair from the ends and pulling for dear life.:lachen::lachen::lachen:

I think I got about 5 braids out of the first JUMBO pack of hair:lachen::lachen::lachen:

Sometimes you have to do things ugly before you can do it pretty
just get some hair the cheap stuff, and practice

Oh my gosh I can't beleive I just sat there and watched that darn video only to find out how easy it was to put braid plaits in! I could just kick myself and i could just hug Robin from Crown and Glory for such a wonderful and patient and descripitve demo video for FREE!! That's awesome. it's over now. My braids may not start gorgeous just yet but at least it'll be free. :) I just sat here and went through like her whole site and I am loving all this info. She is really thorough and helpful in her tips. yay! I'm gonna bookmark her site.

See I can do the hair separating and what not, the part I got caught on was "how do I attach the hair?!" Lol! I am so glad I got this info because I believe highly in doing things yourself. I like to be a jackie of all trades because I grew up on the less fortunate side of the financial bracket and learned a lot about working your own skills and learning to do your own labor to save the $$. Braiding was at the top of my list of things to become proficient in along with handyman, mechanic and green thumb and maybe even a seamstress. They are gonna make a girl go back to the pioneer days with a recession like this.

i am a PUSHER when it comes to learning to braid your own hair...when my sister decided to go natural, i researched braid prices for all of TWO DAYS before realizing i pretty much HAD to learn how to braid to keep her from looking a HAM. there was no way i was paying that salon $200+ when the hair only cost about $10! on top of that, she was getting her cornrows redone when my cousin felt like it...not a good look. i figured if i learned to box braid or something, she could wear the same hairstyle for 6 weeks without having to worry about chasing my cousin down!

anyway, back on topic...i always thought C&G was (in a nutshell) install some braids, keep 'em moisturized, wash and condition on a schedule, then take down and repeat. as much as i have been installing (and wearing) braids, i have only been to that site maybe once at the beginning of my HHJ. maybe i should go back up there?

EXACTLY! On top of that - dealing with the braiders (at least the ones I've frequented was a hassle). The unprofessionalism is amazing, it's either they are eating while they are braiding, (so you've got cheese like an inch away from your hair), they are asking you to hold their babies while they braid your hair, or they are straight criticizing your hair (all the while, their own hair lines are gone and ends straight chewed up). Not to mention the overzealous ones who want to braid your edges 10 times tighter than it needs to be.:wallbash:

Wow, I feel trully blessed to have found a nice young lady who did my box braids for $60, did a nice job, was courteous, stayed focused on braiding even though her 2 year old son was home (baby daddy didn't pick him up, not her fault) etc. In fact, I'm gonna call and make my next appointment right now...

leaps out of thread with an attitude of gratitude!
