For me, its people who will hold on to damaged hair just for the length:mad: !!

Drives me nuts!! It's a hindrance in the long run!

What about you?

I know what you mean. There was a girl checking out my groceries at a local store recently that had really nice thick hair. But she had about 4 (yes 4) inches of really dry messed up ends and she was wearing her hair down. Her hair had no body or flow at all.

I wanted to just give her a trim myself. Her hair would have been so much prettier.

By the way, I don't know why someone would give this thread 1 star. This topic has actually come up before and it got really interesting, I thought. I wish I could search for it - dang!

I don't like people with unhealthy/raggedy hair giving unwarranted advice on how to 'grow' my hair or what products would work for my hair.

Who gives a crap about the star rating? :perplexed

I can't decide which I detest the most: hanging on to raggedy ends for the sake of length, or hair that is so dirty you can see flakes, grease and lint all up and through.

That's just nasty....I don't like when I see kids with hair like this.

Same for me! But....it's there hair, so I don't work myself up over it, but it's definitely annoying when asked for advice, and you tell them to get rid of it and they are like "Ooooh no, that won't work"

SUPA DUPA HARD Hair gel...

You know what I mean, her hair looks like it's SHELLACKED to her head, like maybe it would be painful to sleep in.

Yuck. I see this sometimes and want to pull folks in for a real clarification - as in a CLARIFYING shampoo session...

girls putting these ghetto weaves with pink and hot a$$ blonde on hair  and using pump it up hairspray with tons of gel i just want to yank that crap out

What i dislike the most is people with braids that look like they had it since the beginning of time. Their natural hair look like it's starting to dread with the extention because they had it in so long and haven't washed their hair since they put it in. all you see is flakes, dirt, oil, lint, and all kind of things you don't want to see. turns my stomach thinking about it. I have a supervisor that does this, and guess what she's a hairdresser so you think she would know better. i'm currently in hair school and she always coming over to me trying to give my some jacked up advise. As though i want advise from someone who don't know what shampoo is.

I am ROTFLMBO!!!!!!!!

and the only reason why I'm laughing so hard (especially at the shellacked part) is because I used to do this very same thing!!!:D :p

Talking about hair gel. I hate, HATE, them young (and fairly old) ladies who GEL HAIR TO THEIR FOREHEAD!!!!!! Like a sweeping fringe. errrr it's not cute. Back in the day I've seen these girls wake up, LIFT the crusted layer of hair up, and - get this - put some gel underneath and pat it back down!!!!

Hat weaves get on my last nerve too. You know wat I'm talkin about, it's really a wig and alot of them ghetto women wear, and try to style, them. The hair isn't hair it's like someone cut off a dollys scalp. I've seen women putting them in bunchies with the plastic WHITE scalp all showing, gelling up the multicoloured bits - kinda like that koolaid pick in the other thread.

Weaves and braids that just look a hot mess... especially if they are a different color than their real hair...

Overprocessed relaxed hair with thin see-through ends...

That's about it... I think!

Black magazines giving 'advice' on how to take care of hair. I recently found one of my an old copies of Black Beauty & Hair (BB&H) magazine from October/November 2005. They interviewed stylist Shirlena Allen a professional of 23 years. Heres how it went...

BB&H - What's the best way to deal with breakage?

Shirlena - First of all make sure your having your hair relaxed every 6 weeks to avoid regrowth breaking your hair.

Her celebrity clients include Brandy,Ciara,L'il Kim...

Also in the magazine they did a feature on how the afro was becoming a popular style, they gave advice on how to get your own.... basically get a afro weaved onto your own hair and then they proceeded to advise on how to detangle the weave with specialised products. Then for natural hair, it was get the right cut , then get it blow dried with a comb attachment; then use an oil moisturiser. Not forgetting they suggested you use mouse and hair spray while it is flat twisted to give curl definition.

How nice...

lol---I don't know why people wear those hairstyles that look like

christmas trees. But then they are the first ones to say something about our hair like we are the ones that look crazy....:lachen:

I ABSOLUTELy hate seeing women tap their heads when they have an itch:lol:

I hate seeing girls wear the satin slumber caps out in public:(

I hate smelling someone hair in the elevator:mad:

There is a couple of things that I notice, not about people hair in general but about their practices:

When people ask for help on a breaking area of their hair, they get all kinds of good advice (such as no heat and such) and they ignore all of the advice just to listen to the one person who posted something like MTG, cayenne pepper, or some other speedy growth method (which I am not against). I'm like "if that area of the hair is breaking, no matter how fast it grows you HAVE to combat WHY it is breaking?"

Sometimes I just don't understand why people want the short way out of everything instead of actually fixing the problem? (rhetorical question)

Wasting my time picking my brain only to say well I don't have your type of hair. They continue to belittle their own hair saying not this mess.

1. People with broken/bald temple hair wearing an "I Dream of Jeannie," ponytail.

2. Fake baby hairs that have been unmercifully gelled. (I used to do this when I used to wear my hair like Chili :( )

3. Cheap looking wigs.

4. People who scratch their heads with a pen :ohwell:

5. Nasty ends.

6. Hairstyles that have been slept on for weeks. Crunchy Shirley Temples are not cute for 4 weeks!

7. Bad blonde dye. If you want to be a blonde go for it. However, find one that is suitable for your skin tone. Leave the platinum for Gwen Stefani.

8. People that color their hair and do not condition.

9. Curly ponytails. Most of them look so fake.

Sorry, I know most of these are statements and not hair practices.

Girl I live in the SOUTH now and I am from up north (NY) so when I came down here I was not used to this at all. I mean SOME (not all) of these girls look like they got dang trophies and sculptures on top of their head.

And I HATE when they put tracks in their hair with ALTERNATING colors. Like short styles with alternating blonde and black tracks or PINK and BLONE to match their outfits!

Or the 3 styles on one head. Like Short cut on top Side ponytail in the back with little short pieces of hair curled up top of the ponytail. AAAAH i wish i could find some pics to post for yall.

HAHAHAHA!! you said shellacked. The mess looks like a bullet proof helmet.

To add to that - i hate seeing girls who use pro-style gel except you can see the brown gel crusted to their scalp. Not cute.

ROFL...MaCherie...females aren't the only ones who do the head-tap when their scalp itches. I've seen some brothers doing the taps on the sly because their cornrows are on the dirty side...that's what's causing the scalp itchies.

I also hate seeing sisters, especially young sisters with buns that are pulled so tight they look like they must hurt. If it's giving you asian eyes, loosin it!!

...and the thing is, she's a pretty girl.

That mess looks like it requires her to be plugged into a wall.

SMH!

Other people's hair practices don't bother me.

For the most part me..Me neither... except...

When I see a small child with a gazillion ponytails parted in a million different ways, with a bunch of mismatched hair ties, clips, baubles, etc., at the end! :perplexed
