What does henna do?

So, can anyone tell me what henna does for the hair? I remember using it years ago but I don't remember why! erplexed I'm sure I could find out more if I kept searching but alas, hair time is over. I'm a busy momma and I've read my fill for the day. Darn LHCF has me up past bedtime again! LOL
