I would like to know what does flaxseed oil do for hair I noticed alot of you are taking it along with other vitamins and does it cause any weight gain/ lose because Im trying to gain weight right now please advise.

When I took it regularly... I gotta start taking it again. It made my new growth way softer. It made my scalp less dry... I mean I had natural oils. I don't know if it increased my growth because I wasn't paying attention to that. Also, it made my skin everywhere look amazing. I hardly needed lotion. Great stuff. Imo, the oil is better then the pills but the pills are easier to take.

Sandyrabbit first let me tell you your hair looks beautiful. I've read alot of good things about flaxseed oil here on LHCF but I think I have read some where that it causes either weight lose or gain not sure about that.

Thank you for the compliment. I didn't notice any changes with my weight. Well to be honest... I noticed that I didn't have as much appetite after the flaxseed oiil.

I start taking flaxseed oil for my hair, but notice that it helped with my skin. After three days I notice my skin was clear and radiant. Its helps keep moisture in the skin. It also help keep the acne down on my face. I now take it for my body, and of course my hair will gain benefits from it. It makes the NG soft. I like it alot.

Do people actually take Flaxseed as an oil or as a capsule, and what time of day do you take it? Apparently it is better to take it in the night time before bed so that it can work better as you are resting/sleeping.

I may look into taking the oil as opposed to the capsules as the oil is higher in concentration....not looking forward to the taste though.

Hi there. I've noticed that my skin has a "glow" since I've been taking flaxseed. I'm not sure if it has done anything as far as my hair is concerned. If you're trying to gain weight, you may want to try a high potency multivitamin and a B-Complex vitamin. I did this and it helped.

Flaxseed did wonders for my skin and scalp but made me lose major weight and I'm already a skinny chic, so I had to stop. Now I take fish oils and primrose oils. They're not causing me to put on weight but at least I'm not losing any weight like I was with the flaxseed.

but a word to the wise

So flaxseed oil is a good source of Omega 3. You should consume every day small portions of flaxseed or flaxseed oil. However if flaxseed oil is used in the diet for long time, without other oils, it may cause Omega 6 LA deficiency symptoms. So the best bet is to blend flaxseed oil with other oils that contain more Omega 6, in order to get the right balance, such as sesame oil, sunflower oil, evening primrose oil.

I used to take the oil because you'd need about 14 capsules to get the same amount of omega you get in a tablespoon of the oil, but then I moved on to the ground flax. It tastes very nice to me. Kinda nutty. I just like to put it in a bowl and eat it with a spoon while I drink some juice like cranberry or acai berry. It sticks to your teeth if you eat it like this so that's the only downside. Or I sprinkle it into my oatmeal.

Lately though, I've moved on to Chia which has more of the goodness found in Flax. It isn't as flavorful to me as Flax (actually it doesn't have a taste at all so might appeal more to some). I sprinkle it in yogurt or into a smoothie like the Naked juices or just any juice. In juices that aren't thick, it floats to the top so you just sorta eat it.

i have to soft gel flaxseep pills and i keep forgeting to take them. i took them for like 3 days and them forgot, i will start up again. also these pills are much easier for me to take than the hsn vits(cause those suckas are big).

Wow, I see the comments about flaxseed oil and weight loss so I guess I need to step it up. Right now I use it in smoothies.

GNC has the high potnecy of Flaxseed oil, that has, Omega 3,6 and 9. I already did my research and the GNC clerk, went on to comment, that it was a good buy, cause it has everything you need. Also all the omegas and fatty acids in it, which make it very rich. So I knew it was the right one. I didn't know some flaxseed oil, only carried only Omega 3. I have no problem with the GNC kind.

I would like to for the benefits to the skin.
My skin is super dry but still not clear on hair benefits???

Glad you're happy with GNC oil. Mine is still in the fridge unfinished because I finally got my Barleans brand of ground flax, and now Anutra. Even the oil by Barleans is more potent than GNC and tastes a touch nicer IMO. I really do not like GNC products and only ever get them if I can't get to the Vitamin Shoppe (GNC is closer to me than TVS). I just find they don't stock stuff in the potency I like them and the people that work at the one closest to mine have no clue about what they have in stock unless it's bodybuilding products--I usually find myself showing them where stuff is and educating them on what stuff does.

GNC's high lignan oil has:

  • alpha-Linoleic Acid (ALA)(omega-3) - 6160 mg
  • Linoleic Acid (LA)(omega-6) - 1736 mg
  • Oleic Acid (omega-9) - 1792 mg
Barleans high lignan which I get from the Vitamin Shoppe has:

  • Omega 3 - 6200 mg
  • Omega 6 - 1810 mg
  • Omega 9 - 2040 mg
Spectrum Naturals Flax Oil which can also be gotten at the Vitamin Shoppe has:

  • Omega 3 - 8000 mg
  • Omega 6 - 3000 mg
  • Omega 9 - 2000 mg

So if I'm taking Omega 3 by itself I should stop it b4 starting flax seed?

I don't think you have to. I don't think you can OD on Omega-3 and particularly if your Omega-3 is from oily fish or fish oil supplements, then by all means keep taking it because oily fish products contain the greatest quantities of the 2 most important Omega-3 fatty acids: EPA (good for brain function and cells) and DHA (great for pregnant/nursing mothers and good brain/vision development in children).

Perhaps even better than Flax seed is taking a combo of fish oil and flax seed like Total EFA from Health from the Sun.

this stuff should be taken with some food in your stomach because if you swallow the oil like a shot of whatever you like....you will get a quesy feeling in your stomach all day.like it oiled your insides down!!!
