Hey Ladies!!!

I just wanted to get some ideas of what I could do to stop my hair breakage. It seems like nothing that I do is solving my breakage problem and this whole natural thing is very new to me. When I was relaxed this method got me from SL to MBL but my natural hair isnt feelin it... Here is my reggie bush...

1. Wrap hair every night
2. Scurl 2-3 times daily
3. wash with organix coconut shampoo on DC days
4. DC every 3-4 days with UBH conditioner with plastic cap and heat for 30 mins Sometimes use LeKair Cholesterol
5. Finger comb or shower comb while in the shower with conditioner
6. I've been bunning or wearing 5 thick messy braids ( not parted good) to hold in the SCurl.

* also I use porosity control after every shampoo

What I tend to do is see if my hair needs protein or moisture. I find that when I balance the two, breakage subsides.

I think you need to change up your deep conditioner. Using UBH multiple times a week is giving your hair lots of protein. Now you need to balance it out. :yep:

my hair was breaking badly for months before I finally did the right thing

1. clarified, 2 good lathers with suave clarifying poo
2. washed with HV cocasta bar
3. Aphogee 2 min (steam for 30 mins)
4. DC Moisture - HV sitrinillah (steam for 30 mins)
5. ACV rinse

did this about 3 weeks ago and my ends are loving it.

I now alternate the Aphogee 2 min each week with henna and I'll do this maybe for another month, then I'll alternate every 2 weeks as maintenance

ETA: for clarity, I dont plan to clarify with every wash, just do steps 2 -5. alternating henna with the aphogee 2 minute

A lot of naturals (myself included) do more protective styling. Its a sure-fire way to reduce breakage and let your hair retain its growth if you are properly caring for it while leaving it alone. That could include keeping it up and moisturized for two weeks and also adding protein.

I'm big on protein, but I've learned that too much of protein or moisture can cause breakage but it depends on your hair. Do you have fine strands or coarse strands? Is your hair highly porous or less?

I have fine hair that loves protein and will crumble with too much moisture, so I protein every two weeks to a month and moisturize twice a week, while keeping my hair in protective styles most of the time, sometimes a week, sometimes two weeks, sometimes a month. Never in a style less than a week. I also have my own protein conditioner concoction that's the perfect mix for me.

IA, I stick to weekly light protein tx's and I tend to follow them with a moisturizing DC.

I also stay away from glycerine products.

The few times that I have seen excessive little hairs is either after blowdrying (which I no longer do) or if I've been wearing my hair out for prolonged periods of time (more than 3 days). I don't think wearing it out is the devil but I think I need to modify my regi in order to do so (like moisturizing DCing more often).

I've heard that blackstrap molasses is good for breakage. I think some have said that tea rinses have helped as well.

HTH!

If I have more breakage than usual I immediately check my pH balance and tweek my ACV mixture as necessary, or even stop using it for a while. If that doesn't stop it (which hasn't happened) I wear my hair up more so I don't have to style it.

Primarily, I would attribute your breakage to excess manipulation. If you're taking your bun up and down every day that could be a bit much. I would suggest a protective style that would last you at least a week or more. This should help some and allow for you to assess the moisture protein relationship with YOUR hair.

Hope I could help.
