pressing your hair or getting it chemically relaxed??? Why??

though I've had my hair pressed occasionally myself, I wouldn't recommend it. Like others have said, the texture of your hair could be permanently changed and weakened. I certainly don't plan to press at all this year due to the extremely high heat that's used, wven on a "light" press.

With regard to relaxers, I was fortunate to have had healthy looking hair for the most part; again because of the active ingredients (sodium hydroxide or calcium hydroxide) are caustic by nature.

To answer your question, pressing (VERy occasionally, I would certainly not do it on a regular basis) is the lesser of two evils IMO.

I think they are both bad. But, I notice regular people who press usually have more length and fullest than regular folks with relaxers.

This was me when I had my hair pressed. The "fullness" opposed to the "thinness". Plus my hairline and the hair at nap was pretty much damaged by chemically relaxing my hair.

One thing for sure when I gave up the relaxer…less hair on my bathroom floor.

Some stylist (especially "old school" stylist) love that hard pressing, which is damaging over time. Also, you can lose the texture, which results in straight ends.

Right now for me… less is best. I neither press or chemically relax my hair (natural) and my hair is at its longest its ever been!

Pressing is just relaxing the hair with heat instead of chemicals. BOTH damage the hair. In the long term, the damage is about equal for both. Heat is just NOT a good thing for hair and neither are chemicals.

And there you have it. I agree...
