Okay, first of all I have retarded type hair. I just do not know. It is mostly wavy and only a bit coily, but looks like type 4 hair, but doesn't shrink at all. It dries like 4b hair, having little or no visible texture unless I don't touch it, move, or breath. I see ladies with 4b hair that can pluck a strand from their twa, stretch it and then double-dutch with it. My hair LOOKS like it would be supa long if I stretched it, but when I tug a strand it gets like half an inch longer. Fail. It's a bit more silky than it is coarse, until it dries, then it tries to run away from the world. My hair lurves wash and goes but at this length they look awkwaaaaard. At the end of the day, I love my retard hair, but I happen to have a whack patch and it's ruining my entire life.

My whack patch is a pretty large section at the left front side of my head that has an extremely loose texture. It's not heat damage. I've cut it off three different times, stopped using heat, tried protien, walked around with uneven hair, and when it finally grew back, it was still an extremely loose, frizzy wave that becomes straight when tampered with. When I put my hair in braids, the ends are straight and silky on this side while the rest form pretty coils, therefor I a.) look stupid and b.) the braids unravel. Same for twists. Even my puffs have a retard straight section. My wash and goes that are so pretty have a mentally challenged section that flops and hangs limp. It will not even match texture in a twistout or braidout, doing these makes it even straighter! I try hiding it, tucking it, but the only way to hide it is to straighten my hair and the main reason I am growing my hair out is so I can do wash and goes every day for the rest of my life. That's heaven in my eyes. But I can't, because no matter the length of the rest of my hair, whack patch looks longer because of looser texture, and has no texture to define. Plus I don't wanna walk around with my wash and goes and have nikos' cousins looking at my hair and thinking 'that gurl gots heat damage eww'. It's not heat damage. :cry2:

How do you ladies handle your whack patches? Ever 'fix them?' Maybe I can shave it off and it'll grow back right :look: or keep cutting it gradually? The ends are straight but even down to the roots it's a loose, wavy frizzy. Why gawd, why.

Just for clarification, is your hair completely natural? How long ago did you stop straightening and relaxing? How long is your hair?

It seems strange that part of your hair is wavy and part is straight. That kind of sounds like transitioning hair. Do you have any pictures? Also, you can twist 'n curl or braid 'n curl by putting rollers at the ends of your braids and twists while they set to make them stay.

Solitude. Yes. I stopped relaxing almost 3 years ago, big chopped two years ago and have done 3 'heat damage bc's' in between those. I stopped straightening for the entire summer/fall when I realized that my hair was still growing in this way. Trust me, I thought it was heat damage until I finally felt my roots at that spot. Parting it there, the hair is frizzy/wavy and undefined, down to the scalp. All the other heat damaged I bc'd grew back regular texture.

I take really bad pictures but I have some I'll post once I get back from the store. Next time i wash I'll see if I can do a part in that area and get a good pic of what it looks like.I'll def try that roller method though.

Ok here are pics, shampooed but not conditioned and no product. And don't mind the sticking up I washed my hair in the sink :spinning:

^ See that stringy side? I usually start by chopping off the enitre bone-straight area. It only happens there and nowhere else ever since I chopped the rest of the heat damage. I keep getting tempted to chop again but i don't want another setback.

^This is how the rest of my hair acts.

Aww, sorry about your troubles.
But, your whack patch doesn't really look that bad, IMO. It looks like it has plenty of curl!
From your description, I expected a large patch of 2b in the middle of your head, lol.

It really looks like it could be coaxed into curling with the right products. Have you tried any curl-enhancers? Nexxus and Aveda have them in their lines.

Lol! I guess maybe I feel some kinda way about it and it makes it worse than it is. It seems a lot straighter once my hair dries.

I've tried some curl products and my hair rebels and turns into a frizz ball. It's weird. The ones that work on the rest of my hair make the wack patch stringy. The only types I've actually tried are things like s-curl, curls pomade and gel. When it's still wet it isn'tbad, but when it dries it becomes much more noticable

First, your OP was :lachen::lachen::lachen:
Second, it isn't that bad. I have the same thing. Have you tried the Tighty Curly method, i.e., twisting that section around your finger with some product to make it spiral? Much to my surprise, it actually works. She does it with her whole head, crazy time consuming, but sometimes I will just do it in isolated places to promote greater curl uniformity.

Girl I thought I was going to see my hair up in there! If I had a camera I'd show you a pic of the foolishness at the top of my hair, which is some 2a wavy bull :nono:. Mine *might* be heat damage, but the roots are growing in the same way so I don't think so. I agree with prettypithy; try the tightly curly method. It increased my shrinkage IMMENSELY, but it gave definition to those parts that really don't have them naturally. I'm not at the stage where I'd do it all over anymore, I'd also do it on just the ridic sections that wanna act like they ain't got no sense.

I have the same issue in the same place, weird. I know for sure it's not heat damage and all the new growth that comes in is coming in straight. It really messes with "look" of the rest of my hair. When wet it looks relaxed, when dry it looks relaxed. What I do with my patch now is, when wearing twist(twist outs), braids(braid outs) I try to twist/braid as tight as I can, roll them up and blend with the rest of my air as best I can. I get so frustrated with my patch, that I often consider bc'n to the scalp just to see what would happen.
