Ok so the search feature wasnt working for me yet again.:wallbash:

I'm sitting here right now under the dryer and it's kinda late in my neck of the woods, and I was feeling far too lazy to handle all this new growth (8 weeks post right now, lots of curlies), I didnt want to do flexirods or rollers sets and sit under the dryer forever. So I decided to try a wet wrap which is something I literally havent done in years.

See what had happened wuz I had the boar bristle brush sitting on my desk and it kept calling my name, and I found it in my hands next gently running down my freshly DC'd and sealed ends. Remarkably it was making them incredibly smooth and little breakage just mostly sheds with bulbs. Next thing you know my hair was wrapped smooth and a scarf on it and now I'm under the dryer...

Am I setting myself up for trouble down the line? :nono::ohwell: I think I'm going to kinda like this sleek look that may happen when I take it down. Y'all know how much I LOVE SLEEK HAIR. Aaaand I have NOT touched my flat iron since the start of Bootcamp - well MY start... March 31st. This is a big deal being that I've co-washed at least 3 times and just washed today w/ dc.

More power to you, Roxie.
I am tooo scared to do a wet wrap. You have to make sure you post pics afterwards.

Wet wraps are cool and your hair is in great shape, I think you will be fine and you used a boar brush so I don't think you will have any set backs at all.

:lachen: Lol, yeah no prob. I did it because I was being lazy, and I'm a little sleepy so to set my hair would take a while since I have all this NG, and then to dry, more time.

I was really careful, used my wide tooth comb to get it into the shape, then gently used the boar bristle brush to smooth. Wasn't as much manipulation as I had expected and again no tons of hair in the brush so I don't feel too bad. I used leave-in though OF COURSE - HE Break's Over and Sebastian Potion 9. I made sure my hair was fully detangled beforehand, and again, only sheds minimal breakage.

I wouldnt do this anymore than once a week when I do my wash/dc if I decide to do it AT ALL. I'm just so afraid to cause set backs. I'd maintain the style by way of pin curling or cross wrapping.

But I'm just experimenting, we'll see how it comes out.:look:

Thanks so much! I surely hope so! Yeah I heard that BB Brushes are good for the hair. I got a 100% bb brush, it doesnt rip my hair out. Occasionally I'll use it on my edges to smooth it down if needed.

I think it depends on the length of your hair. I think anyone w/ short hair may have a better time and less riskier time achieving a wet wrap...but I would advise someone w/ bsl and beyond not to try it.

IMO, wet wrapping is too risky, and it's a risk I wouldn't take.

However, I've seen it done on short hair. I don't consider your hair short by any means. I also don't think it would work well with a lot of new growth.

Don't chance it girl.

Opps.

I see you're doing just that now.

Well, be careful when you comb your wrap down. Gentle, gentle, gentle.

Ok that's it, I'm not going to try it again. Hmmmmm, I need some new ideas to get through this stretch. It's not so much the hair causing me trouble, it's what to do with it once I wash it... I'm not sure I'm going to survive my 4 month stretch, lol. I've only just completed month two and I'm dying for swinging hair, lol.

I tried the roller set/saran wrap route, but each time I end up with NG that I cant apply direct heat to because of Bootcamp (and I really want to stick to it) and then I SWEAT OUT all my setting/work with the saran wrap.

I've only see one person do the best wet wrap and that was my mother's hairdresser (she closed her shop). If you're ever tempted or too lazy to rollerset, try doing your wet wrap with Kemi oyl. You'll get a smooth, moisturized wrap.

I've been doing wet wraps lately, but only under certain circumstances:

Not on 8 weeks + post-relaxer hair
My hair HAS to have major slip before I even attemp to do so
Use only wide tooth comb
Do not continuosly brush hair to make smooth
wrap in sections only
dry under the Pibbs on medium heat
use low heat to blow out roots (spritzing water lightly on roots only)

LOL, thanks ladies for the info. It came out ok actually, my roots were still a little poofy because I didnt fully smooth them out or anything. I did have great slip from my products so I didnt loose too much hair, no more than normal sheds on wash day. I'm just at a loss with my hair, lol. I think I'm going to be relaxing sooner than my 4 month stretch. Heck, I'm not sure why I'm stretching that long in the first place, lol.:lachen:

I saw this thread and immediately thought about your blog on Healthy Textures and your beautiful results, LOL! There was a comment on there about putting large rollers at the top or crown and wrapping the sides. I almost tried it this way today. I went ahead and did a full rollerset instead.

Foxie, I am sure your hair is going to look fab, can't wait to see your results!

You can get great results visually with a wet wrap, however in the long run I dont think its really good for your hair IMO. I use to do wet wraps and I had very very thin ends months later.

i did wet wraps before but only on freshly relazed hair. Personally i wouldnt try it on hairs that many weeks post. i just dont want to take the risk

I only do wet wraps very occasionally in a pinch, and only the first several weeks after a retouch.

However, after I discovered wrapping was one of the causes of my past breakage and growth issues, I don't use wraps as a daily styling method anymore.

U don't like curly hairstyles? [i.e. braidout, twistout, bantu knots] I'm on my 5th month of stretching right now, and this is how I managed my new growth. :yep:

I still do them and love them. However, I will only do them up to the 4th week. Otherwise, to get it smooth, it's too much manipulation with the NG.

Since my hair is shorter, I do wet wraps. I am texlaxed and my hair is pretty curly. The only way that I can get it straight enough to style is with a wet wrap. When my hair gets longer I will still wet wrap instead of blowdrying. To me, wet wraps give the hair a smoother texture than airdrying and constant blowdrying causes way more breakage than a wet wrap. I will agree that you have to be careful about breakage with a wet wrap but if done correctly with the right products, I see no reason that it would be considered detrimental to the hair.

I'm glad your wrap turned out good...I love your hair.

I still have not learned to wrap my hair, wet or dry. I'm curious though, how do wet wraps make the ends thin? Is it from brushing the wet hair?

I'm too scared to do a wet wrap, so I wouldn't chance it. But kudos to you for trying it. The only people I know that still do wet wraps are the women at the salon I used to go to. I was thinking about going to my old stylist for a good ole fashioned wash and wrap, but when I thought about it, I couldn't bring myself to do it. I cringe at the thought of using that fine-tooth comb to smooth out my hair:nono: Like some of the others mentioned, if you're going to continue to do it, I wouldn't try this too often, even with shorter hair.

My stylist did wet wraps on me weekly/bi-weekly for 2 yrs. and I think it helped me to grow my hair as long as it is. It didn't require much manipulation at all.

I just did a wet wrap last night using Biominoil and my hair came out awesome!! My hair is short, but I didn't have any problems wet wrapping it using a boar brush. I normally only use wet wrapping when I'm in a hurry, otherwise I let it air dry.

I used to wet wrap my hair all the time and it got to BSL. It never really worked unless I had recently gotten a touch up, and I never used a brush, I just detangled with a wide tooth comb, then one with more narrow teeth to wrap, and smoothed my wet wrap with a fine tooth comb. I used to sit under the dryer for about an hour and let the rest airdry overnight.

I cant even comb through my hair so nay, a wet wrap is not where it's at for me. I'd like to see pics, perhaps your hair is strong enough to do it?
Im stretching too right now with alternating batu knots, twist-outs, and flat-ironing.

I think a wet wrap for someone with her hair length is okay. It's not that long, so I don't think she'll have a problem. I have done this before, but I don't like sitting under the dryer so I stopped. I suggest though, if you do this again, apply some light oil around your head/hair after coming out the dryer and then re-wrap before bed. If your hair gets APL and beyond, then I think wet wrapping may not be something you want to do all the time.

i wet wrapped my hair after a touch up and my hair came out amazing. i think it will only come out good with a fresh perm. i had no breakage whatsoever. but then again, my hair is very short.
