... would you do it?

(this question is from a friend...I told her not to do it)

I think it depends on the condition, thickness, and strength of your hair. My hair is fine and I don't think my strands could withstand the pulling and tension from the round brush every week especially my edges. For me rollersetting and flatironing the roots if needed is much better. You could always have the stylist rollerset your hair then blowout the roots only, instead of all your length.

I will have to say no. I have very thick hair and when you get a blowout every week (I am assuming one of those HOH ones), it will eventually cause your hair to get thinner. This happened to me, and as soon as I noticed (when I was in DR shop land), I rotated to at the very most every other week.

I would say dont do it. Ask Nikki mentioned she can get a roller set and get the roots blown or even a wrap style.

When I was going to Dom Salons I would only let them wrap. Only when I got a relaxer did I let them blowdry my roots. That is way too much heat IMO

I use to b/c we had get our hair done every week!! And I didn't have any adverse effects!! My hair was actually very healthy then!!

NOPE:eek: ! I sure don't want to dmg my hair. Even if it's a slow thing over time, I would just kick myself, thinking how much hair I would have had, and how healthy it would be if I wasn't using the heat at all. Just my 2 cents

i wouldn't do it. i'd be scared of damage and i want to see if my hair would grow without the heat. if she must blow dry why can't she just blow dry the roots?

Same thing happened to me. But I would only get the roots blown out, and I still saw how that made my hair very thin.

You're hair is beautiful. I wouldn't change a thing! But my 2cents is that I used to get my hair blown-dry, pressed &/or flat-ironed every week to every other week...my hair is natural and during that phase, it didn't do anything. I didn't notice any significant damage - but my hair stayed the same length. Partially due to a overzealous, scissor happy stylist, and the other part due to heat damage I'm sure.

Whenever I get blow-out I notice alot of shedding. Therefore I recently started setting my hair for myself. I leave the hair dryer on the cool setting or let my hair dry overnight

i had the same experience. i didnt have any breakage but my hair stayed at neck length.

With the right products and care you can blow out your hair. If its healthy hair and you use caution to keep the dryer moving, and use a heat protector leave in.

I am not so keen on this one. I would not suggest it due to my personal experience with blow outs. I use to get my hair blown once every four months at Mirror Image in NYC.(A great DR Salon) While I loved the results, I always found that my hair broke off, right at the ends after day two and always washed it out.

I found this to be very surprising as I never use heat and moisturized like crazy. I would not want to imagine how much more breakage I would have if I did it weekly.

Granted, it could have been due to my fine hair, but I still would not chance it. Good luck to your friend.

I was thinking of doing so starting in October...there was a member on here who had great results going to a DS weekly or biweekly.
