Your leave-out hair? You know...the hair at the top/sides/back?

I was wondering...because I got a sew in on 1/16 and I flat ironed my hair for the first 4 days after that to blend.

also...my hair is short in the back (growing out a bob), and i think I have a very small area of breakage from stretching it into a low pony.

I have another 7 weeks with this sew in...and I plan to cease these practices immediately, so I can keep my hair healthy...

Just wondering if you ladies notice any change in the condition of your blended hair after your installs, and if not....how you blend without compromising hair health...thanks! :)

Back when I was weaving, I did notice damage to my leave out hair. My solution was using textured hair- Spanish Wavy - which blended with my texlaxed hair.

Yes, i did use a lot of heat on my leave-out hair the last time i had an install and that section of my hair was breakage city when i took the install down... this time i opted for a full head sew in so i don't have to worry about it (i burn this weave up EVERY morning with my flat iron LOL)... some suggestions would be to tie your hair down at night so that you don't have to use heat that often (if you aren't already doing so) or use rollers on your leave out hair... make sure you continue to keep that hair moisturized and conditioned.

I try to minimize me using straight hair because of fear of damage. I choose curly or wet and wavy styles that I can just twist my hair or braid for it to blend.

I agree with DaPPeR My next install I'm going to get a wavy hair so that I can just twist or bantu the part thats left out for minimal damage. When I had straight hair before I would only try to flat iron once a week after deep conditioning..even when I was deep into my stretch..I had to do alot of search and destroys though but I had minimal damage.

My leave out hair is definitely not that healthy. I prefer straight styles so I am flat ironing several times a week to make it blend with my highly textured, texlaxed hair. The next install I get will be a full head weave with no hair left out.

You have to be very careful with your leave out. I purchase hair that is similar to my own so when it's straight is still kinda puffy and full and I roller set, so my leave out blends. I only straighten my hair once every 2 weeks and I make sure I deep condition and use heat protectant. I also use coconut oil or olive oil at least every two days on my leave out, concentrating on my ends.
As far as the nape I use a leave in moisturizing conditioner at least every other day.

I don't comb my leave out when straight, I finger through it and style it that way..I've noticed with these practices I'm retaining my length and experiencing less breakage.

Hey chica,
Dude, you shoulda called me! I talked to Kemp about your weave issues today. lol.

But on my first install, yes, I did a lot of heat because I didn't really know how else to blend. I had more straight hair upon removal so I revamped my maintenance. With the leave out hair, I DC pretty much every wash weekend and I do flat iron it once a week. It lasts the whole week especially because I wrap it. Sometimes I use rollers to get a wavy/bigger look. Sometimes, I dont even flat iron; I moisturize, blowdry and wrap it and it stays straight. If I miss a wash week, I just wear a ponytail.

My cousin washes every two weeks so she can use less heat. After the first week, she just does the 'Lauren Conrad' two side twists thing or wears a ponytail.

How silky is your weave that you flat iron daily?

I think I had the opposite happen to me. Because I was able to monitor and get to my leave-out hair, it had less damage than the hair that was sewn-in.

Pre-LHCF I could care less about my left out hair. I texturized, dyed, highlighted and flat iron like nobody's business. I'm paying for that now. My hair is gradually starting to get healthier but i'm battling split ends.

Since I'm transitioning i opt for curly hair to avoid flat ironing. when I use straight hair I try not to flat iron a lot. Just tie my hair down at night, flat iron on co-wash/wash days or before I go out to a party.

& full head installs are just not for me.

Yeah, I recommend sticking with the wavy installs. But, if you really prefer the straight styles I would do a full head with a closure. I grew my hair from a bob style with weaves. I recommend using growth aids (i.e. Megatek) to speed and thicken up the growth in the back area.

Thanks for the input/advice ladies!

Actually, i have not flat-ironed since last week sometime...tuesday or wednesday. I didn't get to do my weekly wash...so I will try the "LC" until tomorrow night...lol.

The weave hair is not that silky...it's Goddess Remy like Nichi's. I just liked my bangs in my face for the first couple of days...I wanted it to look perfect.

I will def. baby my hair over the next few weeks, as I'm noticing many splits! I HATE splits! I will most likely cut my bangs and get face-framing layers when i take down my install to rid myself of the damage/splits that I can't repair before-hand. I'm def. not afraid of the scissors!

ITA. Although i personally don't leave any of my hair out, many people experience some heat damage from trying to blend their real hair from the weave. To stay on the safe side, you can either choose weaves that have textures similar to yours or you can opt for a full head weave :)

Also, you might want to minimize how often you wash your weave so that you dont have to flat iron as much.

Where I usually have the issue is in the back. Everyone that has done my hair does straight-back cornrow base and the has EATEN UP my nape. I don't know how but little by little, I gues the braids would "lift" when I put the weave in a pony tail and break off where it lifted off my neck. So watch out for that.

As far as the leave out, I don't have the type of hair that can just blow dry and lay down but I would suggest you MAKE SURE that you deep condition your leave out. It's crazy to do so much for a tiny piece of hair (depending on how much you leave out) but it keeps the hair from getting frizzy and rough between the washes. So what I do is DC it, blow dry after I air dried to 70%, put a tiny but of Silk Infusion (I hate the smell but it works well) and flat iron. I also wrap my hair, not around my head. But I put a scarf over my leaveout and then put a bonnet over that.

I don't want to jack - (but) My other issue is keeping the hair moisturised under the weave. I do spray my hair with like, braid spray/moisturizer but when my hair is wet, it needs to be sealed but how do I seal my braids with oild without getting the hair oily and gross?? If anyone knows , PM me
