I have weak hair, and it is seriously getting on my nerves

! I can't comb my hair without it breaking off in my comb (I always use a wide tooth comb). I usually go to the hair dresser and get my hair washed and deep conditioned every two weeks, and I use BB castor oil lotion mixed with a spray I made from spring water, rosemary oil, and sage oil daily since the castor oil lotion is really heavy when I use it alone. I use Wildgrowth oil on my scalp every three days (or else my scalp gets terribly dry) and I do 5 minute scalp massages at least twice a week (or more if I'm not busy). I also take a One A Day Womens vitamen once a day, and I make sure to exercise and eat right. These are the products I have at home that I intend on using:

SHAMPOOS
Cream of Nature (green, white, and yellow bottle)

CONDITIONERS
Elasta QP Intense Conditioner

MOISTURIZERS
BB Castor Oil lotion mixed with rosemary growth spritz (I got that recipe from nappturality.com awhile ago, back before my mom made me get a relaxer again)
Elasta QP H Two

I am only 14, so I don't have much independence on what I can and cannot do with my hair. My mother is afraid if I attempt on washing my hair the weeks I don't go to the hair dresser I'll just tangle it up, and I'll look a mess

<---I love the smileys hee hee. I just need some tips on ways (hopefully cheap) to strengthen my hair.

Have you tried the Elasta QP Intensive Treatment Breakage Control Serum? Check it out at havanabeautysupply.com I've never tried it alone, but I have mixed it with mild, creamy protein conditioners with good results.

Hi Pro Pac, Summit Mend and Infusium 23 Power Pac Conditioner are some other good, cheap protein conditioners.

Maybe u need (tons more) moisture in ur hair
scratchchin.gif
... I know that ur misting with the spring water, but at the same time ur adding rosemary, sage, castor oils which could be blocking the water from fully entering ur hair strands. Please understand there's nothing wrong with the oils... it's just that ur not getting enough moisture into ur strands *PRIOR* to adding the oils.

Another thing, ur getting a deep conditioning treatment every 2 wks right? Well maybe thats too long to wait. (From what u've laid out) ur hair is drying out between these treatments.....

Considering that ur mom is "afraid" that u'll tangle up ur hair if u work on it urself....
1) Talk to ur mom. See if she'll let u do a (b'tween salon wk) conditioner rinse.

In ur case to minimize ur mom's fear of tangles, u can
- section ur hair in 4's
- detangle each section (this is a crucial step)
- braid each section (plaits)
- add an ouchless band to the ends to keep the braids from unraveling
- then in a squeezing motion, apply a very moisturizing conditioner on each braid.
- Let it sit for 30 or so mins under a plastic cap
- rinse the conditioner out in the shower (while the hair is still braided)... basically let the shower stream run down along each braid & squeeze the conditioner out.
- gently pat away the excess water from the scalp & braided hair, but u wanna keep it pretty moist still.
- if u have a leave in conditioner, mist some during this step
- add ur oils to ur braided hair & scalp. (make sure to add a bit more oil to ur ends)
- remove ur ouchless bands & replace them with a roller on the ends.

Results? A very moisturized, already detangled & braided head of hair! If ur not used to air drying, then instead u can sit under a hooded dryer until ur hair is dry.

When fully dry (roots to ends), remove ur roller & undo ur braids. Sweetie pie, now u'll have a lusciously moisturized braidout to sport around

(( If u want a "style" to ur braid out, make a side part instead of a center part... unless u like center parts

))

If this seems like a lot, well believe me, it's not. But if ur not used to working on ur own hair, I understand. If u need any help along the way, send me a pm... I'd be happy to help u out

*** make sure that u talk to mom first... That's that most important step of all

BTW, I live in Cleveland, OH too (Euclid)

I agree that you probably need more moisture. From what you said in your post I gather you used to be natural or were transitioning at one point. Remember that your regimen for taking care of your relaxed hair may be quite different from what you did to take care of your natural hair.
I would suggest Aubrey Organics GPB (Glycogen Protein Balancer), although it isn't exactly cheap ($8-9 for 8 oz). It does work wonderfully on my relaxed hair, though. It's the most expensive thing I put in my hair but I think it's worth it. The protein strengthens but it isn't a high potency reconstructor and still is very moisturizing. It also makes my hair really easy to detangle. You can find it at health food stores or at vitaminshoppe.com

Hi-Pro-Pac is a good and affordable protein conditioner that should help with the breakage. Also try and get another wash in there. Wash and condition in sections so your hair doesn't get tangled. HTH

the ladies who have responded have given you great advice!!! The only thing i can suggest is a tip on how to use the BB castor oil lotion, I found that when i comb it through immediately after applying it my hair tends to break more.(it makes it a funny type of wet) So i let it sit in my hair for a few minutes (to absorb) and then i comb. Usually i'll apply the lotion before my shower and after i'm done putting on my clothes i'll comb my hair and it soo much easier to handle this way.

Clairol Renewal 5X conditioner for dry/damaged hair strengthens without hardening the hair like protein treatments would. I leave it on wet hair under a heating bonnet for an hour when I want to strengthen. It costs $3.00 at CVS. (Don't get the corresponding shampoo though -- it strips moisture and oils from the hair.)
