Waxed based products

Does anyone use wax- based proucts to smooth down their hair? Does it cause breakage?

I used some wax based cream to smooth my edges for the first time and after I washed my hair I had lots of small (0.5-1cm) broken off hairs and I am wondering if it is the wax.

I have not used any hard protein recently to have protein overload.

I use Garnier Fructis Water-based Brilliantine Wax daily on my edges with no breakage. It's inexpensive, washes out easily and doesn't flake! Love it! And it smells divine!

I can use wax products here and there but if i use on a regular basis, it will take my edges out. I learned this the hard way .
