If you use no products and just wash your hair daily (water only) do you think your growth rate would remain the same? Would your retention remain the same? Just wondering.......

I don't know about anyone else, but I would be bald because my hair would be dry. I need to seal that water (moisture) in. Maybe I could get by with just oil and water, but not water alone.

I moisturize my hair with water and glycerin and I can honestly say I have a lot of new growth and Ive only had my hair braided for 2 1/2 weeks.

Growth rate would definitely remain the same. Growth RETENTION perhaps would not.

The problem with using just water is that it will not stay wet (retain moisture) on and in your hair. It will evaporate and the hair will be in no better condition. The cuticle would have nothing on, in or under it to keep it strong, pliable and in better CONDITON.

Water EVAPORATES. Therefore, the hair would dry out and break off. But the growth rate will stay the same.

Sometimes, I use plain water...and have done so for years. :look: I don't have problems with dryness or retention.

I was wondering if one's diet plays apart in needing to apply topical moisture? Also if your skin is very oily do you need to apply topical moisture?

I have an oily scalp and oily skin but my hair is dry. Sebum does not slide / travel along the strands when your hair is curly, so in some way you simulate sebum whenever you moisturize and seal. Another thing that happens to me is: if I co-wash, or even use only water every day my hair gets dry. I guess water takes off the sebum we produce instead of distributing it.

Yes, I do have oily skin, but I'm not sure if that affects my hair. I also drink PLENTY of water daily, which I believe does contribute to overall health, including hair.

More importantly, I keep my regimen as simple as possible. When I feel like addiing oil, I do it...but not everytime....and my hair seems OK with that. :)
