Washing braids/twists??

So...my hair's been breaking, and i'm 3 weeks post, so i've decided to do some senegalesse(sp??) twists...and i want to know about washing, i love cowashing, but should/can this be done on braids to keep moisture?? If so, how?? If not, why not?? all opinions welcome! TIA
