WASH AND SET?

Most salons in this area charge $40 for this service. I have been washing my hair every week in the shower and airdrying with each wash. However, I was a little concerned about breakouts on my back from products running down it. I have very sensitive skin and I don't want to irritate it anymore. I found a salon in the area that does a Wash and Set for $15 which is music to my ears. The problem is that they do not include a deep conditioner with this fee. That is $7 extra, totalling $22. I guess I can stop being cheap but I can't help it, I'm broke!

I normally airdry then pull my hair up in a loose bun (loose because my hair is only approx. 5 inches), followed by a phony pony (baggie method). My goal is to stretch out my relaxers to 3 months but the new growth is getting harder and harder to manage when I airdry.

I was just looking for some assistance in getting my hair washed weekly and managing my new growth (it is much easier for someone else to roll this stuff resulting in less breakage). But it doesn't look as appealing if my hair will be lacking the conditioning treatments . . .

Any suggestions?

Why don't you bring your own deep conditioner with you to the salon? I do this and they don't charge me for it. But it is usually $5 extra.

You can deep condition at home using your sink between hairdresser visits. 15 bucks is a good deal.

Very good one.

That's what I'd do, too (and I DO, cuz I tend to get breakouts on my back when I wash in the shower as well!!)

I know that some people don't like using the sink to wash their hair, but I don't have a problem with it...

To all who responded, how often are you deep conditioning your hair?

Also, do you suggest a preshampoo treatment prior to my salon visits?

It depends on what's your definition of deep conditioning.

But for real, I rarely sit under the dryer with the conditioner on my head. Most times, I massage it in for 5 minutes and that's it.

But when I go to the hairdresser (about once per month) generally, they do it for me.

I deep condition weekly (w/heat cap). I guess you could do a preshampoo treatment prior if you want... I don't really think it's necessary though... I would only do those when I'm washing it myself at home.

I know that this isn't what you ased for, but I always use a body wash for those with acne...with EVERY wash even if I'm not washing my hair so that my products don't break me out. I'm using Phisoderm right now, but I'll be going back to Neutrogena.
