I COPIED THIS FROM MY POST IN THE "RELAXED MAXI GLIDE USERS CHECK IN" THREAD. I DECIDED TO MAKE A NEW POST ABOUT THIS!!

WARNING............

I ordered the Maxiglide and HATED it!!!!!! Please read if your are considering buying this product!!!!!!!!
I used the MaxiGlide in my hair and it did not glide through my new growth like they claimed that it would. On their live demonstrations they said that people with relaxed hair should use it instead of relaxers or use it to straighten their new growth between relaxers. I ordered the Maxi glide to stretch my relaxers. When I used it on my new growth, it did not even begin to glide through my hair. When I put it on my new growth (I have 4a hair) and attempted to glide it through my hair, it got stuck. About three to four seconds later the entire section of hair that I was trying to straighten fell into the sink. The Maxi Glide burned the whole section of my hair off. I was so UPSET. I sent the Maxi Glide back immediatedly and recieved a refund. I then contacted the company to make a complaint. I spoke with the secretary and told her what happend. She told me that she would have the manager call me back. A few weeks went by and the manager never called so I tryed to call him again. Once again the secretary told me that manager would call me back and he never did. This went on for months until I called one day and somone else answered the phone and put me through to the manager. I told the manager what happened and demaned to speak with Mr. Maxius (I think that's his name.) He told me that he would have him contact me. He then told me that the "MaxiGlide is really meant for people with curly to wavy hair." He also told me that the MaxiGlide is not really for really tightly curled or kinky hair. He then went on to say that that is the reason why mostly all of the women of color on the informercials all have curly hair (2a, 2b, 3a, 3b, 3c.) I was outragged and I then demaned that he have Mr. Maxius call me immediatly. This happen about 1 1/2 years ago, and I still haven't heard from Mr. Maxius. I even filed a complaint with the Shop at Home network (that is where I bought it.) They said that they would contact him for me or try have him call me the next time he was in the studio/on air. I have seen him on air on the Shop At Home network at least 15 times since then and I still haven't heard from him. The last time I tryed to contact him was about a month ago and I still have not gotten a reply.

I posted in other thread but will post it here too :-))

Wow..so sorry it didn't work for u.
I watched the DvD that came with my Maxiglide at least 3 times and stopped and pasued with iron in my hand to make sure i can master it.
The one thing they stress is to not press hard with the maxiglide like we do with other flat irons. They say if you press hard it will pull hair.
Its very tricky to maneuver the maxiglide, because if u do use it like the other flat irons it will pull your hair.
The trick is to glide thru roots and hair very loosely. The steam/heat is straightening your hair, not the plates themselves.
I did this on my 4a hair with 17 weeks post relaxer new growth. Glided thru like butter, no problems. I also had it on a lower heat setting..around 5.
I don't understand y the man Mr maxius would tell u that, probably to try to think of anything to say so u won't be angry
again sorry about your experience with it.

I did all that you did (DVD, practice, and used setting 5) with alot of new growth and it did fine. I love it!:)

I got it for Christmas and I have 4a 4b hair. I love it! I think its very important to understand that its not a flat iron and you are not suppose to press your hair wit it. Your hair has to be combed out and completely untangled so that it will glide thru. I think she might have used it wrong because if you turn it all the way up and use it like a flat iron it probably would do this to someone’s hair. I only put it on 4 when I do it and make sure if it doesn’t glide thru I open it detangle some more and try it again. I am so sorry this happened to you.

I read the directions over and over before I started. (Mine did not come with a DVD.) I didn't push down hard either. I had iron set on 5 (it may have been set on 4) so that it wouldn't be that hot for my first use. Dispite all of that my hair still fell out.

The people at Maxi Glide said that mine may have been defective. They offered to replce it but I declined since they told me that it really meant for people with curly or wavy hair.

I recently ordered the maxiglide and i heart it!

when I first used it, i used the comb-like plate. hated it. did not glide at all.

I only use the flat plates now. absolutely love the steam. :)

ETA: Geesh, forgive me... where are my manners.

I am very sorry that this has happened to you. I would be highly upset to and i hope you get some satisifaction soon.

With some TLC i am sure you can nurse that section back to health.

i used it and burnt a small section of my natural hair strait..some of it is reverting but i have some strands that will not..but i must also say it was my fault..i had it on the highest setting and i didint put a heat protector on b4 i flat ironed..i was just testing it out on a small section and didnt take precautions..

Wow, since this was over a year and a half ago, maybe you had a bootleg one, you know how there is always a defected one or few out of a bunch. I got my maxi-glide as a gift from my aunt and I never had a problem w/it on my hair or none of my clients. I only use setting 3 along w/fantasia IC or Elasta QP like silk leave in heat protectant, and I never watched the DVD just read the instructions and I never had a problem. Thanks for the heads up, and sorry this happened to you.

Thank you for starting this thread Southie. I hadn't seen your comment in the other one. I have been thinking about buying the maxiglide to help me stretch my relaxers. I will still purchase one, but I will be extra careful and observe the advice the other ladies here have given.

To the OP - sorry this happened to you.

If you used setting 5 and didn't close the iron all the way I'm thinking that the maxiglide you had was defective.

I haven't had a problem with mine.

I'm sorry the glide did not work for you. There is always a so called wonderful product that does not work for everyone. I have been using the glide since the summer of '05 and I love it. Again like everyone else watched the video, read the instructions and read others post before I used it. I also use the max temp rate anywear from 3-5 depending on my newgrowth. When my new growth gets too tight I always blow dry my roots for the best outcome when I want to use this iron. Maybe your iron was defective, if so, that's just plain :(

Oh my, Im sorry that happened to u! I'm a 4a-b and I use it and it got me srt8...Man, that is crazy. ANd as for it being meant for the curlies not the coilies, is tru I guess. Maxius just recently began using a type 4 model and b4 that i heard him say it wouldnt work of African American hair. But when he started using the AA model, he even said himself that he didnt think it would work. THat annoyed me when she said that as he has a black girl on the box, u kno??

Once again, I am sorry about ur misfortune with the iron.

this happened to me with the miniglide. That sucka singed my hair right off. There is no heat dial on it so it got uber hot. As for the maxiglide, I don't know how to use it correctly. I'm sorry you had a problem with it. At least they gave you a prompt refund. Most companies really don't really want to know about glitches so maybe that's why the manager is ducking you.:ohwell: I hope all goes well with you.

First time i used it...it sucked....but my hair wasn't acting right either. Working with smaller pieces helped me alot along with not pressing down really hard.

Sorry to hear you had a problem. The Maxiglide worked wonderfully for my natural hair and I will never use another iron again.

This is exactly the reason why I have not used direct heat on my hair in over a year. It's just not worth risking it.
