War between Natural and Relaxed is over

I have been fighting this over in my head, since February 3rd. This thread is really to get my thoughts out, and what other people have decided to do.

February 3rd I relaxed my hair after being a year and 8 months natural.

I did it because I was bored.

i hated it in the beginning, then loved it, and then felt indifferent.

I've been toying with the idea to go natural. But then I thought, what did I do with my hair when it was natural. An afro puff, and extensions, and twists here and there.

I have decided to withdraw from the transitioner thread, and stretch for another 2 months, and then texlax. (to about 60%) I am currently 80%.

So the fighting is over. I have decided what to do.

Besides, if Isis and many others on this board can have gorgeous long texlax hair.. Certainly I can!!

Congrats on your choice! Whether your hair's relaxed/texlaxed/natural, once you're happy with your hair, that's all that matters. Hair should be enjoyed, not stressed over. ;)

Thanks... I'm a texlaxer too if that's the case. I don't need bone strait hair but if I want it, I just turn the heat up on the flat iron.

Depending on how well my hair does today, I'll pick up another camera.

Hi Blossom, LOL.

Yeah, since i cut bangs, I have a new love for my hair..

I have my hair dye, it's going to be darkest black. And I got my new headbands.

yay!

That is so true.

Thank you! :)

I have been having this convo in my head too. I have been natural since 2000. I just want a change. I just remember how damaged my hair was when I had a relaxer, but I also remember I had no knowledge on what I should have been doing to take care of it and no message boards for help either. The only thing that is really stopping me is that when I get ready to go back to natural I will have to cut it(I am not going to do those super long transitions). I think I am going to tinker with flat ironing to see if that will kill the itch for a while.

That was exactly what I was doing in my head. I have my up moments with relaxed, and my up moments with natural.

And I was like you, with not knowing how to properly care for it when I was relaxed the first time.

WOuld you believe it... LOL ??? I remember putting the relaxer on teh whole of my hair when I did my touch ups. I would start at the roots, then just do the rest..

WTF

Was I crazy??

Me too!
My momma did my relaxers, and she would put it thru the whole head everytime and just comb and rake. We always wondered why my hair came out all jacked up and broke all the dang time. I could not get hair past my jawline. :lachen: We thought that would make it straighter. Big mistake, what were we doing?!:lachen:

Since joining this board and seeing all the ladies with healthy looking beautiful heads of relaxed hair sharing tips and being so supportive I am almost positive I could have nice looking relaxed hair.

I actually have a phytorelaxer index 1 here just in case I get the guts to do it.

My biggest hold back is big chopping if I wanted to go back to natural hair. It also seems a lot of the ladies are putting in lots of work to keep their relaxed hair looking great and healthy, and I may be too lazy for that.

We'll see...

Seraphinelle, congrats on your decision. I know it must be a relief to have settled on something. Going back and forth with yourself can be such a pain in the neck. Yay for you!

I also wanted to mention to OnAHairQuest that IMO, relaxed hair isn't more work than natural hair. I think regimens can be as complicated or simple as people want to make them. And for me, the more natural hair I have, the more often I have to wash which means more work & product for me. So, I think it's all relative, but I certainly wouldn't be intimidated by it being a lot of work. Sylver2 is a perfect example of how relaxed hair thrives when it's left alone, and she's always saying that she's lazy...you'd never know it by her hair though.

Good luck!

Your advice to OnAHairQuest, is soo true!!! I love how this site doesn't have a bias towards one or the other.

LHCF... amazing! :)

Congrats on your decision!. I too was going through the internal battle, and though I haven't relaxed yet, I'm so glad that I at least made a decision.

BTW, you look really cute in the siggy pic.

I'm glad you made a decision you are happy with, it sucks to be twixed and in between. Hope you continue to enjoy your hair.
