I finally got the balls to wear my hair out today. I got on the bus, and this chick just fudged my day up. She straight up mean mugged the hell out of me, rolled her eyes, and mean mugged me some more. I just sat down and called it a day, but she kept looking at me.
5 minutes later
she: wondering why I am looking at you?
Me: Yea, what I do?
She: I’m looking at ur hair
Me: oh! (Thinking what the hell)
She: You have a lot of waves and curls.
Me: Oh!
She: is it hard to do
me: it’s not easy, it gets tangled really easy
She: Oh! Insert eye roll and whatever
she: whispers something to her friend, and stares me down one last time.

-Gets off the bus-

After that, I am no longer wearing my hair down

I don't get it. Something like that would definately make me wanna wear my hair down. Jealousy comes no matter what u do.

Girl you better wear that hair with pride. Some Georgia women are so competitive and will make you feel bad when they are the ones jealous of you. She was straight up hatin' on you and your crown. Shake it off!

NOT ME........

I'm the quiet chick that nobody knows on campus, and don't want the attention.

If you want to wear your hair down- do it. This chick would probably be grinning:grin: from ear to ear if she knew she could have that effect on someone. Don't give her that power. :nono:

You know the old saying: Water off a ducks back.

I got the coldest stare last week ever. I mean I could only see the whites of this chicks eyes. I think its funny. Not the first time won't be the last.

I am a loner myself, so I understand where you are coming from. But you will be getting a lot of attention once you hit BSL and wear your hair down. :perplexed

I would have asked her if she was embarrassed to show how jealous she is. I would have smiled like I was crazy and chuckle even if it bothered me.

I would have told her that my hair is a dream to take care of.

lmao... that's funny even though u we're upset.. :( I'm sorry,
but your narration was funny.

Now you can be known as the quiet chick with the nice hair:-)

Exactly! Also, Divine, just because you are quiet doesn't mean people don't know who you are and aren't paying attention to you. That is something I have learned over and over again and probably will never quite get used to, but it's true. Wearing your hair up won't change that either.

Sounds like she was complimenting you in her own twisted way. It's funny to me that she asked, "Wondering why I am looking at you?" She wasn't going to let you get with ignoring her rudeness! Geez, some people are so bold. :nono:

Also, the title of this thread is hilarious! I needed a good laugh right now, so thanks!

I would never allow a complete stranger to dictate how I wear my hair. Unless she is about to give me a good paying job or pay my bills.

I agree, I would wear my hair down and just be a swinging. Not to front or anything but its mine I worked hard to acheive it and I would help if anyone ask. I do see however, a lot of women of color who have long hair who are not friendly.

Oh, I have to add that I really am sorry your mood was dampened by that girl and I do understand that feeling. I was happy when reading your account that the encounter was purely verbal and didn't get worse because she was so aggressive. I just hope you aren't still upset by it and won't be if it happens again in the future. :)

Girl, please don't let her get to you! Honestly, I think with time you will learn to love people staring at you. It's the biggest compliment. The best way to diffuse it is to smile and say hi, or smile and nod at them. That lets them know they have no power over you, and that you're not petty like they are.

I've got short hair and I get unwelcome attention especially when my hair is straightened and bouncing around.

Today I went out with my fresh press... and I heard these chicks saying something along the lines of me... thinking that I'm so cute (because of my hair), but I'm fat.

Didn't even phase me... because

1. I DO think I'm cute
2. I know I'm a bigger girl, hey I'm not THAT big though
3. They were some stupid chicks hanging out on the block... nothing better to do.

Hating on my HAIR... damn.

Women can be VERY catty and jealous, but you can't let that stop you. Do what makes you feel beautiful. We shouldn't have to hide our beauty to be considerate of other people's low self esteem!

Thats true..........sigh

Thank everybody......

I was just real upset, because it had just happen when I wrote this thread. I'm going to shake it off, and wear my hair down again tomorrow.

Thanks people

Plenty of people will be jealous of you for no reason. That is just how some people are. Anyway, she doesn't know you, so her opinion should not affect you. She sounded like she admired your hair, and was muttering to her friend about it. Wear your hair down proudly.

Girl dont even sweat that little girl..i hate people like that...they have so much negativity in them..instead of giving you a compliment for your hair they have something negative to say because they arent by no means even close to where you are...girl i wldnt stop doing what i do because of this little girl...

I'm sorry that happened to you. I'm the type of person that would have smiled or laughed and be like are you serious? I love that attention because it means that I'm doing something right. :)
