I love the waves at the roots. Can't keep my hands off of them. Why don't I go natural?? Then I remember . . coming home from school as a little girl with a ponytail on one side of my head and an Afro puff on the other. I remember walking across the parking lot early in the morning and smelling wet hair from the early morning dew. I remember feeling my hair rising on my head. I remember my hair looking gorgeous in the bathroom at home and look horrible all day at school.

Now why did I want to go Natural? I thought it was impossible to go more than eight week without a relaxer, I've went 13 weeks last time, and I'm into my 11th week now.
But how, Oh how do people go back natural? How do you wear you hair? How do you keep it looking nice and contoured? What are the secrets?

I remember that look!

I'm not fully natural yet, so I can't tell you any "secrets". I plan to wear my hair in twist/braid outs and puffs. I'll press it sometimes, but not in the summer time. I live in the South--why bother?

During my transition, I slick my hair back into a bun with a mixture of S-Curl Spray and holding gel and cover it with a fake afro puff.

You wear your hair anyway you want to wear it.

You just have to have the constitution not to care what other's think of your hair, as long as you like it. You also have to have the patience to take some time with it (even if it's only a slow and gentle comb out).

Check out Ourhair.net, nappyhair.com and nappturality.com for information and styles.

HTH and good luck.

I know the feeling.

I keep feeling under when I have new growth too, I like the way it feels, but then reality sets in, I know that 6 or more inches of that stuff is unruly

For me at least. And as for not caring what people say, when your in the public eye, appearance is everything and the styles that I see people with dreds braids and twists just are for me some people look good with them and others don't.

I look at people like Sweetcoca and skegeesmbe and think man they are blessed to have such good natural hair..

Not to insult you mindy, but that comment is exactly what natural hair is not about. All natural textures are beautiful, it is just about the individual seeing the beauty in them. It's the word 'good natural hair' that irked me.

I definitely think that going natural is not something you can decide overnight. I went throught the natural-relax cycle until I finally discovered what my hair needed to be natural..........curl activator, a wide comb and patience.

I definitely think that everyone should have a texture on their head that they like. Natural hair is not hard work(in my opinion)but the hard work comes in trying to see yourself differently because it is quite a shock to the system when you have to question your own ideas of aesthetics.

word!

that is a deep quote - can i use it as my signature?

Thanks for the input. I thought about pressing, then I remember how much I hated pressing my hair, hot combs, grease, and it doesn't last long. I thought about just a natural texture, braid at night, nice waves in the morning, then a bush before I get home in the evening.

Right now, I'm giving it a lot of thought. I had my hair pressed, the first time at 7. For seven years I had my hair press, then at 14, my first relaxer, but I transitioned in and out. I see the school picture at 14 with lots of thick bushy hair, then the next year at 15, I look like a different person with relaxed bone straight thin hair.

I will check out the website for natural hair.

There aren't any secrets to going natural. Once you decide to go natural your personal standards of beauty will change. You just have to re-learn how to treat your hair. I've been natural since 1997. Since I have gone natural I haven't had split ends, thin ends or scabs from relaxers gone wrong. I have no secrets. I just have healthy hair.
