Very odd new growth texture

My new growth in some areas of my head is coming in in coils. Sort of like after you take out twist outs. I'm wondering what is causing this? I've found like 7 coils already. I untwist them but when i wash, it returns to these coils. What's causing this? It's kinda cool. I am relaxed with type 4b i think. I also henna weekly.:)

I don't know what is "causing" your coils to appear, but sometimes when your hair is well-moisturized it is easier for your natural texture to appear.

i'm not sure if this is my natural texture though  , i wish i could take a pic to explain better:ohwell: . The only way to describe it is loosened twist. they are only about 2 inches each though so it seems as though they are newly appearing.

Maybe you naturally have more than one hair texture. I don't know if anything is causing the coils. As CAPlush has said, many times proper hair care will allow us to see our natural texture.

Henna can sometimes loosen the coil/curl pattern, as can some supplements. If you can be more specific about your regimen and product use, maybe someone can give you a better answer. Are you transitioning? Do you remember what your natural texture is? Although I'm not relaxed, these are a few of the things that I've read that may help answer your question. I'm sure someone with better answers will pop in here to help you. :)

well i'm not transitioning but i am 10 weeks post relaxer. Since i wear only protective styling i'm planning on going 16 to 20 weeks.:D (crossing fingers). I am also taking msm, i heard this could also loosen the curl pattern so that may be it. just kinda strange it's not happening all over though.:( If all of my new growth came in like this I might consider going natural.;) Not really complaining, just trying to find out what is causing it, I kinda like it.

I have some of those coils so I consider myself a mix between a 4a and 4b. I never saw them though until after I started taking MSM.

hmm, so msm might be the culprit. very interesting. cool.

eta: thanks for chiming in, lol - now i don't feel like an odd ball.

I'm 12 weeks post, with type 4b. I've never stretched this long before. I have noticed that my roots are dark and super coily like that too. It's very odd seeing them because I use to relax/touch-up and flat iron so much that I never really got to see my hair in it's normal/natural state like this. I'm really enjoying this :D

hehe, i'm enjoying it too. :) How long are u planning to stretch. i'm going for 4 months but since discovering th scarf method, i can go maybe go for 6months. I used to relax every 8week like clock work. Maybe i'm pushing it, lol. :D
