Using a regular conditioner as a leave in. (kinda long)

Okay folks, for those of you who don't know,I am a natural who presses quite often.

Now I am getting tired of the time it takes to commence to heat styling so I've decided to stop pressing my hair for a while.

One thing I am contemplating doing is washing my hair as I do now (weekly) and spritzing my hair with distilled water along with putting some conditioner in it for moisture, but not leave in conditioner. I will be using the kind you rinse out after washing it. (Do ya'll get what I'm saying?)

Do yall think the conditioner would cake up on my hair or would this be okay? TIA

I'm relaxed and that's something I considered doing but wasnt sure which type of conditioner if any would be okay.

The Elucence Moisture Balancing conditioner is designed to be used as a leave-in. As long as you're not using too much it should be okay. What you might notice though is that your hair will feel coated or like it has build-up.

I have been doing this for years! Whenever I air dry my hair, I leave in a good amount of a regular conditioner. Works like a charm!

I do this as well, dove works well for me and so does aussie moist, they do not have cones and i mix with a little shea oil and go. My hair stays moist this way, much better than any moisturizer that I have tried.

Well for me it does a few things. I wear my hair out alot so I like that it weighs my hair down a bit or de-volumizes. So I definitely don't recommend it for those that want volume. It also helps keep the curls defined and controls frizz. I live in Florida, humidity central and frizz capital  , so a little serum is never sufficient for this problem.

I guess I started doing this when I found leave-ins to be insuffient to my hair's demanding need. Of course since then I have discovered NTM Silk touch leave-in and Aveda Elixer. Those are some heavier creamy leave ins that hold up as well as a conditioner. I have to use a lot though and it can get pricey so I'll still use my regular conditoners as a leave in.

Everyone's hair is different though so I'm sure its not for everyone.

Girl, if it can do that for you in Florida, then I should have a ball in TEXAS with this method. Thank you.

Your welcome! Hope it works well for you like it does for me!

Yes you can definitely use one- depends on the conditioner though. I used Suave Milk and Honey for a few months with success (replaced my old standby Abba Nourishing leave in) but I recently discovered Elucense Moisture Benefits as a leave in and my hair loves it. For the first time since being natural my curls really pop without having to go through a major routine to coax them along.

I have been doing this for a while, myself. I got this recipe from Motowngirl's website. This works great and there is not build up. Also, a little goes a long way. The softness and curl definition are wonderful!

1 cup thick conditioner (without protien)
1/8 cup oil of choice
1/8 cup watery leave-in conditioner of choice
1 tablespoon glycerin

Conditioner options she mentioned were:
Pantene Hydrating Curls
Suave Humectress
Aussie

Oil options she mentioned were:
Coconut
Olive
Avocado
Bottom line, whatever conditioners and oils work for you.

Where do you get the elucence moisture benefits?

Yes!!! I put Kenra Moisturizing Conditioner in my hair and then braid it for a braidout. The result: soft, very easy to comb, good smellling hair that lasts until my next wash. By the way, I have 4a hair and I'm 11 months into transition. Think of it like lotion for your hair. Why put a great lotion on then wash it off right down the drain?

I used to use Suave Milk and Honey. I LOVED the way that this product made my hair feel, except I had more scalp flakes than I wanted. I ALWAYS have scalp flakes when I leave in conditioner. But then, I occasionally have scalp flakes regardless. Anyway, Suave Milk and honey worked great as a leave in, but NOT as a rinse out.

i think im gonna try this with my herbal essences hydrating conditioner :scratchch ... just spritzing water ain't cuttin' it

I do that, often. It keeps my hair very moisturized. You should experiment to find the conditioners that work best on your hair.

I use them as a leave-in on my dripping wet hair after washing. I use Herbal Essences or VO5, and mixed in a little bit of Castor oil or grease. Yesterday I use HE throughout my hair, and applied some Healthy Ends on my 2 pony twists. To me, like the other girl mentioned with a great point, this works better than just serums alone. I live in Indy, and we also have very hot, humid days, my hair looks great. I think next go around, I'm going to try Aussie Moist or Infusium's new line of conditioners, especially the one for frizzy hair.
