How is everyone doing on the challenge? I'm only 7 weeks post but the summer heat is causing my new growth to grow like grass. I had to switch my normal shampoo to a more "detangling" shampoo to avoid tangles and knots and I have to wash every 2 days as oppose to 3-4 days to keep my hair from becoming a horrible dry mess. Otherwise, I'm doing good. I hope I could make it until Dec.

Hey there...I am unofficially part of the challenge i guess..lol. I had my last relaxer in May and I am trying to see how long I can go without one. It helps that I am also wearing a wig every day.

Hey

Whoah, it's too hot and humid up here for a wig but I'm think of braiding my hair once I get past my 12th week.

Yeah..the wig gets hot sometimes, but I usually only wear it when I am going to be inside, like at work or shopping. When I am at home...it comes off immediately! I love wearing my wigs.

I'm already doing this without a whim in the world, if you know what I mean. My last relaxer touchup was back in March. I'm hoping I can last until October (originally I was going for September for my touchup, plus my 1 yr. anniversary from switching to relaxed after being a natural head all these years). I can wait 2 more months because my hair is growing like WOW!!!!

I'm not in a hurry 'ya know.

I wasn't on this challenge at first but I've decided to join. I'm just about at 4 months and I'm going to trim a inch of my hair at my next salon visit. I'll relax my hair at the 6 month mark in October or i'll go 8 months and relax in December. I haven't made up my mind yet....but either way I'm doing a loooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnng stretch.

I have 4 more weeks to go and going strong. It will be a breeze since my hair is all braided up. I am tempted to take them down so I can see how much newgrowth I have.

Count me in please. I am trying to go until December. I have braids in as well and my last relaxer was in June. I have taken a few braids out (they need to be touched up soon anyway) to check for progress and so far so good

This month will be my 6th month..my last relaxer was around Feb 10th.. it's been easy so far. I'm pretty sure that I'm just going to go natural..I much rather have curly hair. I'll see how much growth I have when the holidays near and then decide if I should cut off all of the relaxed hair that is left..

So far so good. I'm only 2 months so far.....It'll be interesting to see how it works out since I normally don't go over 3 months.

Hey I am at 2 months and 3 weeks and if I wasn't determined to go the whole 6 months before, I def am now thanks to OshunCurls text picts. I think I may scout out Curve salon now that they don't seem to be insisting on you starting from scratch with them.

I'm almost at three months. I thought I was going to break down and have to get a relaxer. The heat and humidity and I think my hair was a tad underprocessed in some spots I didn't think I could make it. But I got through the "storm". I will be wearing my hair in braids for the most of the time and i'll be getting a one inch trim sometime in August.

What is the purpose of the challenge? I think I must have missed a thread on this before. I am actually trying to go nautral. So I am 6 months without a relaxer.

The purpose of the challenge is to extend our relaxer touch-ups to at least 6 months. It seems like a few people have decided go natural if they can make it this long without a relaxer.

Okay. So does extending it by six months help it in someway. For example, I notice my hair is much thicker and fuller at six months.

Ladies, I cannot take this humidity. I had nothing but bushy big hair today

. I'm officially going to braid my hair tomorrow for 4 weeks. When I take them off I will be only 11 weeks!

How do those of you that go past three months MANAGE????? I am having the worst time with my hair. I guess I have to cut down on manipulation. I may be doing this challenge by default because I'm freaked about realxing myself and I'll be damned if I let one of these bumpkins (no offense to southerners, it's not all of you. Just the hairdressers

) ruin my hair.... Friday makes the end of week 12.

One of the places I went into, the lady told me my hair was too clean to relax. That I should leave it for a month (as in, with skip washing
barf.gif
) and come back then...

I was like - yeah....oooookkkkkaayyyyyy

Tracy, I stay in braids.. thats the only way i can deal with the new growth!

right now i am 17 weeks post relaxer.. i'm unofficially part of the challenge.. except i'm not going 24 weeks, i will relax at 21 weeks.

I caved @ week 20, which to me is a feat. So I'm not feeling bad AT ALL. I noticed some breakage at what I estimated to be the demarcation line, so that was the end of the road for me. I'm going to have to correct my texturizer, probably around week 6-8, after that I should be able to go back into an extended period of stretching.

How is everyone doing? I am at the 3 month mark right now. My new growth is driving my up the wall. I have no clue how I went a whole year with out relaxing /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif

Spanishteardrops: I love your new pics! Your bun looks great. You're doing a great job with your hair. Oh yeah, Congratulations on your graduation. /images/graemlins/weird.gif

I am at month 5 and I cannot beleive it. For the last 9 weeks I've been braided up and sometime this week I am gonna get a weave for the next two months so I may make it to 7 months.

I don't know Miosy. I have made an appointment for Friday. It's been a little over 4 months and I'm so tired of the two textures. Also, when I do a rollerset It's extra puffy. I mean BIG. I may be falling off the wagon if I don't cancel before Friday (which is highly unlikely) /images/graemlins/blush.gif

Good luck,,,, miosy... your hair is looking good so far. /images/graemlins/up.gif I dropped out of the challenge and relaxed my hair on august 28........ /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif

Well it's been easier than I thought. The only issue I'm having is tangling in my most underprocessed area (where the correction is being done). But my new growth is no issue. I'm @ week 8 already, so I'll keep going until week 10 at least. Then I'll go back to the long stretch.

Best Wishes and Congrats Ladies /images/graemlins/weird.gif

Me too Sengschick. I wanted to go 20 weeks without texturizing but I have about 2" on the left side which was not done correctly the first time and it's been hard keeping it from not tangling. I'm at week 9 so I'm proud already. Before I went natural years ago the longest I ever went was 6-8 weeks..usually 6 weeks. I think I'll go to week 16 and fix that left side.
MS_Jennifer...please take pics of your touch up. What relaxer do you use again? I have been meaning to IM to see how you've been. /images/graemlins/smile.gif
