This's really been bothering me

, my hair always comes out wooly, frizzy and big when I do it myself. I thought I was using too high of heat but I turned it down and same thing. I take my time and do small pieces but the results are always the same

. Now, I think I either have too much product (doubt) or just a really half baked flat iron. I use a Hot Tools w/ 12 heat settings. Any advice would be much appreciated! TIA

Hey metalkitty. I used to have the same problem when I use to straighten my hair with a Gold n' Hot bumper. For me, the problem was that the iron didn't clamp my hair tight enough/ and the iron didn't get as hot as I needed it. Oh, and I had to much product in my hair. I've been using a setting lotion (KeraCare Foam) during drying and a Babyliss iron and the results have been superb thus far...Hope this helps

I used to have the same problem. Now, I hot curl my hair with a 1 1/2 inch (the large one) hot curler and get superb results. For each small section I press it at the roots for like a second and then I open the clamp put a small section of hair in and when I get to the ends curl it up and release, real briefly. If you let your hair "cool" after you have completed your entire head and then wrap it will look as if you flat ironed it.

Good Luck.

I don't know what typre of flat iron you guys are using, but the BIG thing in terms of Flat Irons to use are CERAMIC flat irons. Do a search on this board under 'ceramic' and you will come up with a wealth of info on them. They heat very high but don't damage the hair due to the ion charge. The hair isn't hot to the touch and you need minimal sweeps of the iron over the hair in order for it to straigten.

OM I think the foam and setting lotion would be better if used with a roller set to the hair, but it maybe worth asking on the board what the ladies who use flat irons what put on thier hair. With the top selling british C.Iron they sell an oil spray to be used with it. For me personally I would and oil spray rather than heat/cook a lotion into my hair with high temp iron.

LondonDiva's right about the ceramic irons. I just got one, and I've gotten great results with it. I got it from Sallys here in S.FL at a great price.
