Ok, I have been vacant from the board for a while, but I wanted to share that my hair is doing so much better. I got Olive Oil conditioner, and mango butter, jojoba oil, been doing ACV rinses, the activator, all that and I have nice swingly, moist, supple hair! Anyway..the reason for the post. The last time was hair was relaxed was thanksgiving day...at this point in time, I have very thick poofy new growth. No matter how much a slick it down, it puffs up. I wanna get it relaxed in the next couple days...even if I do alot of protective measures to the previously relaxed hair, is this too soon?

I'm waiting for your answer too. I relaxed mine on Thanksgiving and seem to be in DIRE need of a relaxer. I'm using all the gel I have in the house trying to keep the new growth tame....

Most people say relax every 6 to 8 weeks. Of course on this board, a lot people wait longer then 8 weeks. I say if its to the point where your new growth is getting difficult to manage, then relax. I know that due to my hair type, I can't wait longer than 8 weeks or my hair becomes a pain in the rear to keep looking decent and I start getting breakage.

well, I relaxed a few days before thanksgiving so, i'm in the same boat. I'm trying to force myself to go 8 weeks instead of 6. last time i relaxed (right before thanksgiving), i relaxed right at 6 weeks. I've regretted it ever since.... I think I got my hair way too straight. I didn't have all that much new growth to work with. I had about 1/2 inch of newgrowth at the time.

I would say wait unless you are sure you can do it without any overlapping. I do my own touchups so, I'm not all that good at it yet. My hair is okay now but, definitely weaker then prior to that retouch. I'm wearing protective styles and using curl activator and moisturizer to manage my newgrowth.

There is a thread on here somewhere called stretching relaxer challenge I believe. I think it was started by Balletbun. There may be some helpful hints for stretching out your touchups there.

Girls, I am in the same boat. It is so hard for me to make it to 6 weeks. My hair starts breaking off a lot more when I wait. I use to get a perm every 4 weeks because my new growth was so thick and hard to handle. 6 weeks is the absolute that I can go. By then I have more than an inch of new growth. I think that we should let our hair's behavior alert us of when we need a relaxer. For, I have drawn one conclusion...if I am loosing more hair than I am growing by stretching out my relaxers, then I must go ahead and relax. What good is it to get a few inches of growth at the roots when you are loosing the ends of your hair due to breakage. I am in a catch 22. I will wait the 6 weeks maximum and then I am going to apply the chemicals.

I am in the same boat also but my last touch up was Dec. 4th. I am in a dying need of getting another relaxer. I would like to go pass 6 weeks but my hair is so coarse the new growth is just going to break. So I say wait until 6 weeks and maybe try to stretch it 8 weeks if possible.

Well,I relaxed my hair on Saturday after having it previously relaxed during the week of Thanksgiving, and my hair feels and look healthy. I had so much new growth I felt I needed a relaxer before my usual 6-8 weeks touch-ups. I think your hair is going to be ok if you have enough new growth and if it's currently healthy.

If your hair is becoming difficult to manage with your new growth then relax it. It's better to relax according to growth rather than according to time elapsed.

have you tried surge? I'm asking because surge helps detangle my new growth and i'm able to manage it easier when using this.

I spray mine directly on the scalp, and it affects my new growth by helping it to lay down. Also a styling suggestion, to help you make it to at least 6 or 7 weeks.. cornrows using your own hair. I let my sister do stylish cornrows (zig zag parted and so forth) and my hands stay out of my hair for one week. Then i when i take them out i wash and deep condition, rollerset and 3 or 4 days later i relax my hair.
