all that and a bag of hot flamin' cheetoes just because their hair touches their shoulders or collarbone. My best friend gets on my nerves all the time...My hair is sooo longg:look: . I'm looking at her like really. Your hair is touching your shoulders come onnn, but I could see if it was really healthy and no splits ends and all this ,but it's NOT...I try giving the girl some tips about flat ironing...She be frying her hair like some pancakes, but she don't listen to me....but hey that's her.. I warned her...I'm just venting let me be :)

LOL,

Thats funny, unfortuanetly shoulder length/colloar bone is considered long to those NON growers.

If you showed her this board she wouldnt believe what she would see BSL,LB,WL hair.
Dont even worry about her!!! You will have your own long hair to flash to soon and it will be healthy!!

I just don't like it when they are like "uh, gosh.. my hair is soo long its annoying", whatever the length may be and they're shaking it around and putting it up, then putting it back down, running their hands through it.

LOL. I KNOW!!! I have a friend who constantly is flipping her hair back and it's shoulder length and thinning out-- especially compared to the way her hair was b4: almost BSL, THICK, shiny, & healthy. But then she added some color and highlights and her hair was eaten up b4 my eyes  I couldn't believe it. She had to do a BC and now it has grown back to shoulder, but still colored so so major thickness (I loved it) is gone! I think homegirl was just misses her old length and feels that if she keeps flipping, ppl will be fooled into thinking her hair is still that length. :ohwell:

There is a slim line between confidence and conceit.

I don't think self esteem should be based on the length of one's hair. If she thinks she's all that and her hair is 0.5 inches long I support her confidence because so many women don't have that. If she grew her hair to her butt, THEN will she have the right to think she is all that?

I do, however, have a problem with people who put other's down to make themselves feel better. If this is so then she is dead wrong and should be stoned for her conceit. :look:

Clarify for me please - which is longer, shoulder or collarbone? I always get confused.

Anyway, I do think shoulder length is long, just not as long as APL, BSL, etc. Especially if it's all one length.

But I feel what you're saying. :)

The girl I am talking about is definitely conceited. She likes to sit in front of ppl and continually flip her hair & she does this every 2 seconds whenever she is talking to you. It's soo distracting and annoying. Mind you she is flipping the front of her hair with her hands and doesn't even graze her shoulders.... so she's flipping her hair where? And we have mutual friends who have WAY longer hair (midback and BSL) who don't do that stuff.

I agree with what you said & I'm not the type to hate on someone or put someone down for confidence, but when you are using your confidence to make others feel inferior, that's when I get annoyed. My hair is now fuller and healthier than hers & longer, & I always want to wear my hair down and sit in front of HER swinging and flipping, but to me, it's not that serious. I'll just let her jaw drop whenever I pass her by as MY hair gets longer. ;)

My friend's sister was flipping her hair all night at a party. It's shoulder length, and every time she was talking she flipped her hair for no reason.

I don't think you over reacted at all. I hate people like that. well. i can't front tho.. back in high school i thought i was the ish with my shoulder length hair  . Not cause it was so long but because it was a decent length. like someone couldn’t say my hair was short. But i've always wanted longer hair . don't pay people like that no mind.

^LOL you girls are funny.

That's why i like hanging out with girls. watch'n you get on eachothers' nerves is pure comedy and entertainment.

I remember when i first stumbled on to this site. My hair was in such bad condition that it wasn't even long enought to put braids on it. I was in tears and was praying for help. Well after working diligently to get my hairs together, A year later it was at my shoulder, and I was flicking and flinging because I was so excited to have some type of growth! My hair is almost to my brastrap now and I never flick or fling it now....So I hang my head in shame! I was once a flicker :( ....

Stylepink, I don't think there's anything wrong with flicking and flinging your hair if you have something worth flinging, i.e. healthy-looking hair.

I understand. I once had a boss who used to talk with her hair. And she always used to comment on someone being bald-headed or having a head full of horse hair. Very annoying.

this is interesting...

I'm always twirling my hair around my finger..or just running my fingers through it.Usually when its blown straight(for no real reason).

I hope people arent looking at me thinking i'm being conceited or self absorbed.

I'm not on some racist madness, but I feel like tha 'hair-flip" thing is an imitaiton of what we've seen white women, who've had the "long, flowing hair" that Black Women have coveted...Now we want long hair, but we want to have "Black Hair" that is long, not someone else's. On our terms...Sorry a little OT, I kno.... But yea, my hair is APL, and when ppl are like "Oh, ur hair is Looongg" I look at them like "Huh?" but to be polite, I thank them. But to me, I don't consider my length to like OMGosh long, but within our community that is...And I kno enuff now (not to put N E one down) thanks to LHCF, to know that I can achieve way longer...And I'm not gassed about my length to the point where I think I'm the ish....

umh I still think shoulder length hair is long. :look:

I think shoulder length is long also. But I also think the definition of long depends on the person. For someone who is desperately trying to grow out neck length hair (like myself) shoulder length seems long.

Hmmmm, I remember one time my old college roommate was telling me a story about a fight she was in and how the girl pulled her hair, then she said "and you know I have alot of it"....at the time I totally agreed with her (about the hair) because her hair touched her shoulders. But now my hair is below the shoulders and I dont think it is long. I appreciate the length especially since it has NEVER been this long, but I always say "I have a nice length".
See the thing is, shoulder length was "long" to me when I didnt believe it was possible for me to reach those lengths because I thought it was all genetic, but now that I know a little TLC goes a long way, hellll.......
