Possible cause #1:

I have a friend of mine that recently found out that she is allergic to gluten. She has used creme of nature for years and always had scalp problems. Many shampoo's contain wheat germ oil or wheat protein. Thats what was causing her problems. If you have food allergies they might also be carrying over in your products.

Possible cause #2:

My bf wants a hair transplant. We went to the consultation and the doctor was saying how many of his patient have digestive issues and the only symptoms they have are itchy scalps. He was saying how many people don't even realize that that is a symptom of a digestive issue. So if you having chronic scalp problems a trip the gastro/interologist might be in order.

Great info, I'll try to keep this in mind incase I ever have problems with my scalp. Thanks for posting.

Thanks for posting this. My neice suffers from chronic, severe, dry itchy scalp; and her dermatologist has not been able to help her find a cure to clear it up. I'm going to show her this post.

This is right on because I have Crohn's which is an inflammatory bowel disease (a digestive problem) and I have dry, itchy, flaky scalp. All I can think to do is ingest Fish Oil to help with my scalp. My hair didn't grow well until I got treatment for the Crohn's disease.

But just so you know my relatives have dry flaky scalp and NONE of them have Crohn's except me. :) So it's not definitive. But thank you for posting this topic! So helpful!

Thanks. If I go to the doc, is there a simple test they can give me to determine if I have food allergies or will I have to request specific tests? Thanks. Also, I’m wondering if I have a hormonal imbalance. How can I be tested for this? Thanks ladies.

I don't know the answers to your questions. I hope some of the other ladies will chime in with responses. These are good questions.
