.... with all that lush, thick hair!!

Her picture got me to thinking - our heads get bigger as we get older, right? They have to, to accomodate our big ole brains. But - does the scalp skin simply 'stretch' over our heads, or does it expand?

The reason I ask is that looking at her - she looks like she's not over 5 - and she's got a tiny head. If she keeps the same amount of FOLLICLES though, by the time she's an adult, she'll merely have thick hair, vs. ohmygodthisisinsane! thick hair. If more follicles are grown/created though, she'll still have ohmygodthisisinsane! thick hair.....

Lucky little girl - are you teaching her all the tricks of taking care of some fabulously thick natural hair? Does her mom know how to take care of natural hair? Lord, it would be sad to flatten away all that hair! Give it to me!

Thanks. Girl, this is the first time, I've posted pics of my twist in avatar, my baby in the siggy. I had to get a co-worker to do the siggy pic for my nieces hair -since I am technically challenged. (she said - texlax it when she saw the photos:grin:).

I have been caring for her hair since she turned 2--her mother handed the job to me basically and I volunteered too. Her daycare provider (who raised 5 girls, warned me that she had dense hair and it would get denser as she grew). I was overly confident and said oh I am natural I am "used to it" but have been very humbled lately:spinning:.

Right now, we have been having major, major issues with tangles knots, etc. So I have lightly pressed it and it has helped. My goal is not to texturize and let her make it until much older--BUT uhm:perplexed.

I have tried to instill love of natural hair for her (with two-strand twists, cornrows, single plait type styles etc.), but already, she wants it to hang down. Mostly she wants it not to tangle up.....which I am working on.

Her hair is denser and thicker than anyone in my family at that age, when we look through photo albums:look: - so we don't know what to expect.

I am rethinking it all......:yep:

*nod* I hear you, and can't even disagree - that baby has two heads of hair!!! *hug* I can definitely see how it might be - interesting.

Does it tangle mostly at the ends, or at the roots, or all together? Have you tried a pH balancer?

*shamefaced*

Maybe that JFM 'Softener' stuff?

It tangles in a manner that I am not used to....the strands at the roots of her hair coil around each other -- so the detangling process is interesting --even to do a plait or cornrow. The ends get knots. So two seperate issues occur at once:drunk:.

The JFM texturizer is under my bathroom sink:blush:--no courage to use it and plus she won't sit or lay still long enough for a thorough, thorough rinse out that I know she would need to use it. So it is way in the back of the cabinet FOR NOW:look:....

When you say PH balancer, are you talking about porosity control conditioner? I had been using kiddie stuff forever, but in the childrens thread started by Queeny20, I shared what I did on the last wash which was to use a pretreat with Almond Oil, Biolage, Sunsilk and heat which helped a lot.

Please tell me more about ph balancers.:yep:

I also have been thinking that detanglers are a part of the problem too--although they intially help, I believe they have caused the problems at the root of her hair by eventually drying it out and causing her scalp to be tender--that and kiddie shampoos/conditioners.
