Hi Everyone!!!!!!

I've been creeping on this sight for about 2 years, finally decided to drop a little cash and sign up!!!

Ok so I've been natural for about 2 years. I BC'd because a bad perm broke off the back of my hair. Since then my hair has grown back pretty decent , however my nape (where the worst breakage occured) is still progressing what I believe to be very slowly. I usually wear twist out as my style of choice. I was wondering if the twistouts could be the cause of my slow growth. They tend to get tangled and i get little balls of hair that tangles at my ends..what can I do to resolve thiss??

Anyonee!!!

Thanks in Advanceee!

Hi! Welcome aboard!! LOL Your twist outs could possibly be the culprit! Especially if they are getting tangled. I know with my hair, breakage can make it seem like my hair is not growing at all! Maybe you should try some other protective style that does not leave your ends exposed. HTH (hope this helps)

It could be too much manipulation if you twist it a lot. Is there a style you can do that does not require too much handling?

Early in my journey I lost some progress due to frequent wet Cornrow outs... The ends of the braids would pop off due to my end coiling around themselves in little balls.

I learned that before I cornrow or twist my hair need to be streched. I learned styling wet hair was not good for me...

I also adopted a modified crown and glory routine. where I wash and airdry in plaits the limit manipulation. when I style i spritz my hair lightly and work with slightly damp hair for styling. That helped with retention a lot! And I learned to leave my twists/ flat twist/ cornrows in for at least a week:

1) it left my twistouts/ flat twist outs/ cornrow outs, braid outs more defined, so I got a few days out the style
2)I cut down on manipulation and protected my hair so that I didnt cause unecessary breakage

Hopefully you can get fix ur problem so u can retain ur length

happy hair growing! and Welcome to LHCF!!!!

When you do a twistout, make sure your ends are THOROUGHLY detangled and smoothed out before twisting. As you twist and get near the bottom of the twist, smooth the ends out with a brush or fine-tooth comb, and make sure to twist all the way to the end. Don't leave any ends loose. If you want more curl to your twistout, wrap the twists around a roller or flexirod. Let your hair airdry (or if pressed for time, sit under a hooded dryer). Before unravelling your twists to achieve the twistout, make sure your hair is COMPLETELY dry. This is important because if your hair is still damp when you unravel the twists, you may experience matting and tangling. Hope that helps!!!

My hair is growing fine and retaining length and I wear twistouts almost 24/7.

I twist my hair 2 times a week on wet hair and I let it airdry overnight.

For me, twistouts cut down drastically on tangles. When I wet my hair or wear it in its natural state, that's when I get bad tangles and single strand knots. Twistouts/braidouts are the easiest and least damaging way for me to stretch my hair.

It could just be that we all have different heads of hair :yep: but for me twistouts HELP me to grow and retain hair.

Welcome to the board..sorry you are heaving bad luck with ur twistouts. Twistouts are the reason I am so successful as natural now---I twist twice a week(similar to Neith) and use Rusk Deep Shine conditioner and water. Air dry, untwist, fluff and go.
