So...Ive just officially joined LHCF a few weeks ago and have been an avid reader since joining. I notice that there is a certain positive / supportive theme amongst the board and I love that! It creates an enviornment where people feel comfortable showing pics when they are at their worst because they know it will be received well.

Now my question is....If I post pic of my hair that is
A. Not healthy looking
B. Giving a style not complimenting to me
C. Altogether a mess
Will anyone here be honest enough to say so? Obviously no one wants to say anything rude, mean or intentionally hurtful but at the same time will you choose your words carefully and deliver the truth? Or better yet PM me with some heart felt advice?

Im not saying Ive seen anyone with jacked up hair and everyone cheered. Im just wondering if I try somethings Ive seen others do and I post it will you keep it all the way real with me?:ohwell:

I keeps it real! :D
Many of the women here are honest & tactful, but there are definitely some who aren't; just ask for honesty & you will get it for the most part.;)
And, welcome!

LOL! Thanks Mecca...I read your post and looked at your Avatar and was like yeah...she aint neva lie!

I don't know. I think that no one wants to hurt anyone else's feelings, so people are very careful with their words.

I think some will reach out to you to share good advice to get your hair back on track. They will recommend products, give suggestions, etc.
But they wont be overly critical. This board is about support and useful information. So i think you will learn a lot from the ladies if your hair is not up to par or is not what you want it to be. Now some might respond negatively but i couldnt see that happening. But if it does take the good advice and apply that.

I'll be honest, I won't say nothing.

Here I subscribe to "if you don't have nothing positive to say don't say it at all."

Now if someone asked me specifically I would tell them how I feel. I just don't go there here-I find that most people really just want encouragement. A lot of people are just starting out. Everyone hair is not gonna look like MacherieAmour's or Sistaslick's hair at the beginning of their journey. It takes time.

So yeah, if I see something I don't like, I usually walk right out the thread saying NOTHING at all. I won't say anything mean, but I deg on sure won't lie.

Im just trying to see if you all will at least say "Jae...maybe you should try XYZ...or Lil' Mama Ima need you to step away from the braid outs lol.. and if someone gets defensive you can just let them sink or swim but at least tell me Im not hot!

Sorry! But see you got to understand where I am coming from. I HAVE seen people be honest with others here only to be called "haters" and be told that they were "negative" and/or bring down the positivity in the thread. So I refrain from going that route.

Also, do know that I understand that EVERYONE's hair is not like a pantene commercial. Everyone isn't gonna have healthy hair upon starting. So while some people look at pics and go "Ewwww. her hair is jacked." I look at pics and go "I can't wait to see where she is gonna be at 6mos to a year from now." Especially if I see you making a conscious effort with a good regimen.

Well you have DEFINATLEY come to the right place to get an honest opinion. For the most part the ladies here are considerate of feelings but will let you kow if you are a mess....in a NICE way! I hope I didnt scare you!

Welcome to the boards and feel free to ask us whatever you like and post us your hair pics. I think its better to actually see whats going on vs being told. That way we can help you out better.

There is honest folks on this board its a wonderful group of ladies, but there is some folks that would sometimes exaggerate not to be mean but to be helpful and encouraging, and on the flip side I would see some beautiful heads of hair and progress and some folks ALSO wouldn't comment you would notice when you stick around its pretty obvious, but all in all they mean well when they compliment its a sign of support all hair is different what's easy for one is hard for others hth:)

Thanks!

Your responses have really given me insight to the way things work around here!

I look forward to your honest feedback (for those comfortable enough) and for silence (from those who are mindful of sensitivity)!

But if you see my font...please be comfortable enough to pull my coat. I want to be like family and if you cant be honest with family who can you be honest with!?:p

I remember a comment from a few days ago:

"For the love of G-d, MOISTURIZE!" :lachen:

I think it was in response to a protein heavy regimen. So, yeah. TRUTH. LOL.
