Have the conditioner washes, ACV rinses, brown sugar exfoliation and all the other tips Lorraine Massey suggests made a big difference in your hair? Especially curious to hear from those with 3-4 hair--particulary 4. Has your texture loosened, hair gained more moisture, have you achieved more manageability, etc?

the biggest and best difference i've noticed is no more itchy scalp. my scalp used to itch the minute after i washed it when i was using traditional shampoos. even at the salon with a good scrubbing. now that i'm mostly CG (i'm doing a modified CG) my head doesn't itch half as much. it barely itches at all. i've also noticed an improvement in the moisture level of my hair. maybe its because there is always conditioner in it. i rinse & condition daily (because of daily rigorous workouts), but my curl formation is nicer, and yes, a bit more elongated and my hair is always moist and soft.

i only do the conditioner washes and deep conditioning. i haven't really or regularly done the ACV rinses or brown sugar exfoliations. but i'm happy with CG. i modify it by occasionally using low-poo shampoos (elucence moisture balancing shampoo and aubrey organics white camellia shampoo.)

I only do the conditioner washes and haven't tried any of the other treatments. I use no-poo once a week or so. What I've notices is more moisturized hair, less frizz, tighter curls, more definition, detangles easily, natural sheen, and my scalp maintains a healthy state. I have not had or noticed a problem with build up.

Yes. I am modified CG (CW/CR, no sulfates, no silicones, ACV rinse occasionally, lo poo), but I've noted the following benefits:
-More moisture--I rarely need an additional moisturizing products.
-My texture has become more defined.
-My hair is not unmanageable on or off CG, but I don't need to detangle as often on CG.

thanks for the responses!

Carribean--The Curly Girl routine comes from a book of the same name by Lorraine Massey. She advocates the use of conditioner to "wash" curly hair as it is less harsh than traditional shampoos. Don't know if you're familiar with the CO (conditioner wash method) but that's basically the premise of her book. She also has natural methods for clarifying.

I just did a mix of lemon juice, Apple cider vinegar and Moisture Scentsations tingle conditioner to clarify my hair. It looks really shiny and moist right now.

When the book came out a few years ago, I used to be faithful to Avocado conditoner washes and then adding lemon juice to it when it was time to clarify. My curls really popped out lovely. I then became lazy for some reason and opted for a texturizer. As I transition from the text. back to natural, I would really like to incorporate more of her methods into my routine.

I tried CG..IT worked ok for me. I did have less frizz but my hair tangled just as much and I still had breakage and messed up ends. Now I shampoo weekly with a gentle shampoo and just do co washes in between.

I consider myself a modified CGer also. I rinse and condition daily, but poo weekly. I did strict CG for awhile, but my hair didn't feel as good as I would have liked. I use Catwalk Curls Rock Poo, it has sulfates, but it feels better than other poos, not drying.

The CG routine works very well for me. I cw daily and it has made a big difference in the moisture level and health of my hair. I never use cones. Occasionally I will use shampoo that does not have SLS. For the most part, though, I stick to the CG routine. I haven't tried brown sugar, though. I do use water + lavender mist to freshen my hair during the day, particularly in the winter when the air is cold and dry.
