Who trims after EVERY relaxer? I am thinking about telling my stylist NOT to trim me when I go for my relaxer BUT I know he is going to HAVE A FIT!!!:lachen:

DEF, NOT me!

I don't trim anymore, I only dust. Tell him that your mom (or whoever) is going to trim you, or that you don't have enough money to pay for the trim. But personally I would tell him that *I* (since it is YOUR hair) am growing out my hair and that I didn't want a trim.

I don't understand why people are so afraid of stylists. It's your hair, not theirs.

..Yea, I am going to tell him that my ends are fine and NOT TO TRIM. I just HATE his lectures but He'll just have to get used to not triming me anymore.

I tell them that I want to measure my length and I will pass this time. When I return, my ends are dusted and I say I had it trimmed somewhere else.

I think this is one of the biggest battels I have with stylists. They try to make you feel so bad for not trimming..I mean why are they so insistant anyway??

i trim after every relaxer, but that's mainly because I'm trying to thicken my hair and so i am attempting to retain a slightly blunt cut. i know it is slowing down my visible growth, but Im at the beginning of my hair journey and i feel like it will pay off later. i guess it depends on your reasons for trimming. if you don't actually need it, and your stylist is trimming out of habit, i'd definitely have them stop it.

I used to be afraid to say no to my stylist when she suggested trimming. After joining LHCF I realized I can say no to stylists. I guess I believed that they were doing what's best for my hair, even relaxing it every 6 weeks like they suggested. Now when she suggests trimming I say no thanks and I do not even try to explain myself!
I trim my hair myself.

I trim twice a year, but I dust my ends whenever needed, usually between weaves or after relaxer. I find that I don't have to take off much when I finally get my big trims, so I'm for it whenever it's necessary.

hmmm, maybe i should continue to trim my hair after every relaxer, but just do it myself, or have someone who i can watch a bit closer do it...

That's a good idea. The sytlists who trimmed my hair always seemed to cut off too much. So my hair length stayed the same.

I used to trim every relaxer also. My stylist is the same way. She does a great job on my hair but she will not be trimming my hair again. Now I plan on trimming every six months. :D

This is what I recently decided to do...self-trim after every relaxer. Just a smidgen for even growth, health, and thickening purposes.

I used to be afraid to say anything because I thought the stylist knew best. I would get my hair touched up every 4 wks:eek:, and I would get it trimmed everytime.

Once I went to a new stylist and I told her that I did not want my ends trimmed, and she tried to embarrass me by saying "you are trying to hold onto your length by keeping those raggedy ends." I knew my hair grew faster on one side than the other so I will give her that, so when I agreed to let her even it out she cut off about 5-6 inches:eek:. There is no way my hair was that uneven. Needless to say there wasn't a second visit.

Now if someone gets my permission to trim, they have to show me an example of how much first.

The stylist who did my virgin relaxer got mad last year when I said "no cut" And the thing was, it was included in the cost of the relaxer so she wasn't losing any money! Too many stylists like to cut. I can't tell you the number of times one went scissor crazy then said "it's just hair". LHCF members invest too much time and money to go out like this:mad:

So just say no thank you!!!

I trim after every relaxer...I think that trimmed hair looks so good! I don't go over board but I see no need to hold on to something that eventually must go.

They way I trim my hair is I part it the way I normally wear it. Then I use a fine tooth comb (this is key) It gets the hair straight and it makes sure that you don't miss any hairs. Then I get my scissors (no dull ones) and I part about 1/4 inch section and trim what is needed. Then I trim some of the crown area because for me this gets split easily. Voila!!! Freshly trimmed hair

I get touch ups every 8 weeks, most times my stylist tells me that I dont need a trim. But, if I do, I get a trim after the relaxer.

 Thats EXACTLY what i used to say and do back in the day, before i went to the Dominicans, and had to deal with those insistent stylists.

I dont know why they are so vehement.... they really take it personally when you decide to pass on a trim.

since january I stopped trimming at the salon, my stylist was taking off 2 inches everymonth and my hair was not even uneven or had splits because she did it at relaxers and between. She didn't even ask if I wanted a trim. so I stopped going to her, I went back to my dominican stylist and I self trim at home after every relaxer.
