Trimming assistance

I am in need of a trim. I haven't had it done since Dec 2006 (I think ). I only trust one person to do it without chopping my hair off and she lives in another city. I am trying to find a tutorial or directions on how to do it myself. I think I have enough guts to do it myself . Please give me some insight on self dusting and trimming.
