TREE BRAIDS

Yes! I have gotten tree braids and I loved them. It sucks I can't find anybody in Nyc that does them. But they are better for your hair than micros b/c they are not putting as much stress on your hair. And don't stress your hair line for those with weaker hairlines.

What they do is cornrow all your hair back (in small rows) and use a latch hook thingie to pull the hair through the braid along the row till you have a full head of hair. It's kind of like a weave but I have them braid down the hair a lil bit so that it looks like micros.

It's great b/c all you hair is braid up and protected. Make sure you sleep w/ a silk scarf or do rag. I can make them last for about 2.5 months that way. But I loved them. I wanted to get them this summer but couldn't find anyone here that does them. If you get them make sure u post pics!

I just go my hair rebraided yesterday. I will post pics later. I like them, the only problem I had....and this was all my fault, was that I was out of town when I removed them, and I was very rough with my hair. It took about 2 1/2 weeks of deep conditioning and co washes for the strands to thicken back up.

But I am cute:look:

I have pics of my tree braids in my "Transitioning: Weave-o-rama" album in my fotki.

I liked them. As long as they aren't too tight they are worth it I think.

thanx for the pics. they're really cute, looks like micros, i might try to get those before i go to jamaica for 3 weeks!

I am looking for someone to do tree braids as well. I will show someone what I want and they have no idea what they are or haven't heard of them. I am in the hampton roads area of virginia. I am willing to go to DC/MD or NC to get these braids.

How do you maintain the tree braids. The same as other braids? I'm looking into getting braids to help with my growth and tree braids seem like a good option. I've never had braids before so I'm clueless on the subject :drunk:

I wore them for about two years straight (about 6 weeks at a time). I liked them because they were easy to maintain and only took a couple of hours to do. You could also change the style based on the type of hair you choose to "crochet" (sp?) in. They are also referred to as "crochet" and "interlock" braids. A draw back to consider is when they wrap the briads it breaks your real hair. I had little short pieces of hair that had to catch up with the rest after I stopped wearing them....just something to consider....

Okay, so this is how I maintain my braids...

I wash once a week with VO5 Kiwi Lime Shampoo ( I need to clarify because of the braid spray)

You can condition if you would like, I just dilute a rinse out conditioner.

I saturate the braids (not the extension) with braid spray, I have a very dry scalp and when I try to scratch, I end up ripping the roots out of my braid:wallbash: ( I know, but I am working on it)

I have the body curl synthetic hair. I pin curl this every nite and after I wash it.

Thats it. If its not all the way dry in the morning, I still undo the pin curl and over the day the curl reforms on its own.

Sounds easy enough. I want to braid my hair for the beginning of school but the radius of my head is HUGE - so much so that every time I get it braided the braider is like - "girl you have some thick hair, I'm gonna have to charge more next time!" My sis gets these done in under 5 hours so that's a plus for me. But she doesn't wash weekly or more like I do (hadn't converted yet). Just want to make sure I can maintain them.

Do you also keep yours for 2 months or more?
