Seriously. :look: I keep seeing tree braids discussed in threads. I googled for pics, but they look kind of like micros. What's the difference? Thanks!
 
got this from the net.....Hair weaving is when human or synthetic hair is woven or braided into existing natural hair. It is also known as Hair Integration


so basically from what i can tell from the pics
they attach the hair to your cornrows instead of sewing in tracks
 
No thats not correct nappi.
Look at the pics i posted. Think of it as normal cornrowing but some hair is left out. Hair isnt attached to the cornrows...
 
Thanks TemiLnd, so these are kind of like a protective style? Do some people just use their own hair and some people get extensions?
 
It's a cornrow based weave where none of your hair is left out but the extension hair is left out. I have pics in my fotki.....but it was not done well either time.
 
Thanks for the pictures & the video link. I get it now. I kind of want to try this! I wonder how long it can last.
 
I got tree braids yesterday! its my first "weave" of any kind and i've never let my hair grow past SL, so its A LOT of hair for me lol. I'll post pics as soon as i find some batteries!
 
my hair is long but I want to get micro braids/sew in combo, can this be done with a tree braid type technique where the hair can be micro'd and my own hair braided down to the end while some of the extension hair is pulled out to make it look like it was only braided to a certain point? Does anyone have pics of what I have just described?
 
You can do it either way...with micros in the front and very back (so you can wear your hair in a ponytail) and a sew in, or micros in the front and the back and tree braided cornrows in the middle. I like tree braided cornrows better because I believe that sometimes the thread that they use to sew the tracks in can slice off your hair. The only thing about tree braids and micros or even the weave with micros in the front, is that there can be a visible gap between where the micros end and the tree braids or sew in weave begins. To combat this, make sure your braider does mircos far back enough so that you can't see the gap from the front and the micros can cover that gap. For instance, you may need like at least 5 rows of micros to cover the gap. I made the mistake of not telling this girl who did my hair and now I have to pin some of the micros to stay in place and cover the gap. One person had her micros braided in like a horseshoe shape around the crown of her head to effectively cover the tree braids (kinda of like the hair they would leave out at the crown of your head if you were getting a weave). I don't think I will get micros in the front anymore, I like how the tree braids look (they look like micros anyway, so the only purpose of getting them in the front is so you can have the ability to have your hair refreshed/rebraided when it grows out. I hope this makes sense.

Thank you wevwil, ur post really helped. Yeah I am going to look at youtube videos on the tree braiding technique to see what process I will use for the front, micro's or tree braiding as I was thinking the same thing about the gap. Now I just have to decide on the hair to get! It's b/w Outre and Sensationnel, decision decisions lol.

When I went to Dionne at Essence of Braids, it took about 3 hours. It shouldn't take long if you get the cornrow method and the person is fast.
 
I love tree braids! I used them to transition for a year and a half. Unfortunately the excessive cornrowing started to make my hairline recede. I'm taking a break from them now but I'm thinking about going back. They are very convenient. They take about 3-4 hours to put in and I can wear them for 6-10 weeks. After 6 weeks they start looking rough.
