On the road? I mean, it's not feasible to pack all the products and styling tools you would normally use at home while you are hiking through the Alps, lol.

Do you get braids or a weave before you go, to cut down on styling needs? Cuz travel time is precious and must be used wisely, not rollersetting for an hour and sitting under the dryer for an age.

Do you just do wash 'n go's? What about wigs/half wigs? Braidouts?

What does the savvy travelista sister do with that lovely mane while on the road?

I want to hear what worked for you, what did NOT work for you (and why!) and what you plan to do on your next trip! :poke:

Oh, wow, you stay traveling, then! I, too, love the convenience of braids. You can do lots of pretty styles with them if you care to, or leave them down, a simply pony or bun.... a million choices.

I travel to warm climates and do wash and go styles. I typically am in the ocean water and/or pool every day while away. I pack conditioner, oil and gel along with my satin bonnet.

For my next trip, I am having someone braid my hair in individuals like KinkyCurlyQueen, PrettyDimples and Lia81 on YouTube. I hope to keep the style for at least three weeks--not sure how I will prevent frizzies but up to the challenge. :yep:

Oh, yeah, the climate makes a huge difference. Norway in January is not the place for wash 'n goes, lol. I probably should have included that in my first post.

The frizz factor of individual braids can be a problem... I stayed in braids for ages and one thing I found helpful: after moisturizing or washing my braids, I would tie my braids down tightly with a scarf. If I planned to wear my braids down, I'd tie them that way (while they dried) and if I planned on a pony/bun, I'd put my braids up that way and then tie the scarf on while it dried. The frizzies dried laying in the direction the style required, and you could hardly notice them.

I too travel to warm climates often. I usually do braidouts, I can get them to last 5-7 days by putting the braidout in loose jumbo twists at night. Once it gets old, I can stretch it another day or two by pulling into a puff. If I get my hair wet, I turn to my trusty wet bun.

Oh, and the last time I was in Miami, my hair was flat ironed. I wore in in a cute high bun during the day, and took it down at night. It did well too, I was surprised.

OMG I am  :pant: over your hair in your siggy! Once it's so long, you can do lots of stuff with it. I bet your braidouts are to die for!

I'm attempting my first braidout today :crossfingers:

Thx!!! And yes, with each length milestone, I find a new handful of styles my hair can do! It's very encouraging!

Weaves!!!! I always weave and it saves me time and money and gives me options of syles or hat wearing, etc.

Nikstar-your hair looks great!!!! You must share your secret please. :)

Well, it depends on what I am doing...I might rollerset, or blow my hair out.

I find a braid or a pony tail air dried naturally works well in Island climates for me.

Thx!! I got preggo right after I BC'd. My hair grew like twice as fast. That's the secret really.:lachen: I've gotten asked a lot about my growth, so there it is. haha Oh and I'm natural and wear a lot of braidouts/twistouts, and only trim 1-2 times a year.

Sorry to hijack! Carry on...

^^ No, no, all of us were waiting with baited breath for the explanation for your super fast growth! Pregnancy does that for some women. For some, I wonder if it isn't just the added prenatal vitamins speeding growth. I think for me it definately was the vitamins.

Anyhoo, I think weaves are a great option... just tend to your leave-out and get some style going, and you're off to the races!

ITA that air-drying is the way to go... if the climate allows for it. Plus your hair can dry while you go the museum or wherever... no need to sit alone and bored under a dryer while precious travel time drains away.

When I travel, I will flat iron my hair with a slight bump at the ends. That usually lasts me 4 days or so. After that, I pincurl my hair for a new style which will last a few more days. That lasts me until I get back home b/c I normally travel a week at a time.

wash n go and buns. My wash n go is actually washed at night and I wear it for a week or more if I want, so it's no fuss and all weather appropriate.

When i was relaxed i used to go to the hair stylist, and my hair last one week or so. I just had to wrap my hair in the nights.
Now that i'm natural i guess wash and go's will do the trick xD

I travel all over for work and play. My best friend in the world is the 3/4 wig (some call it a quick weave). I have a long one for play and a short one for work. The greatest thing since sliced bread I tell ya!

braids are my usual route. the time consumption is when i have to braid. wigs are going to be my next route since all i'll have to do is wear a wig or take along and poo/co if i'm gone longer than a few days.

I wash and go's and put my hair into a ponytail, or a stretch my washing and wear a bun all the time, I can't wait wear my hair down. And I bring my fav shampoo, conditioner, etc until I get back home.

I fly a lot for work, so I make sure that I am bunning. I just pack a conditioner (so that I can cowash at my leisure), a moisturizer, oil, and a large toothed comb. When you are constantly in the air, keeping it simple is always best.

It's all about my scarves and buns. If my hair is down and I've flat ironed before I leave I warp at night and put my scarf on. If my hair gets wet I immediately do a braid out or bun. However, my hair is RARELY down because I love individual braids. I still use my scarf on those. I do make sure to still have a good moisturizer, travel size shampoo and conditioner, a little bottle of oil, and a small 2-3 oz spray bottle filled with watered down moisturizer. Oh and my Denman knock-off. It may sound like a lot, but it all fits in a little travel bag along with my toiletries and my hair regimen isn't upset by my travels!

ps...Investing in travel size bottles and sprayers was the smartest thing I ever did. They come in sets or you can buy them individually for like .79 at places like Target, Wal-mart, or CVZ! :)
