Transitioners/Naturals...WTF is up with my curls??

alibi

hair bored
I'm 8 months into my transitioning (YAY!), and lately I've been pulling my hair back in a ponytail and just doing a phony pony, which has been great for work. Anyways, I have beautiful waves all over my head, but when you get to the front of my hair, it's more straight than anything. It's not so much of a texture difference (most of my hair is 3c/4a), b/c this section will wave when I wash it and step out of the shower. But when I pull it back, the front smooths straight, and I want it to wave like the other sections of my hair! Has anyone else experienced this? I was wondering if all the brushing back into a ponytail isn't making my hair straight in the front, since that's the part that I'm brushing/putting gel in??? Is there anything that you all are using that makes your curls pop out? I tried an apple cider vinegar rinse and spent the day smelling like an easter egg! I hope I'm not ruining my curl pattern in the front with my ponytail...

I can't really offer any advice, but this is just to say that I understand

The back of my hair and sides wave, and when I brush the front it looks like I blowdried my hair which pisses me off, I'd like some consistancy.

the only thing I can offer is that since the front of your hair is looser, I wonder if you can try to use clips in the front. Don't laugh, but I knew this one girl who had bone straight hair, she's Phillipino, and she would get waves with those "finger wave" clips.

I know the Ouidad site has a video showing how to do that. But I wonder if that would help. The only problem is that it may not look like the waves in the back of your head.....

sigh, sorry I can't help you, but I am racking my brain for ya!

The top of my head is the loosest it also right now looks longer than the rest of my hair if I don't pick it all out because it is the loosest. I saw the hair on your nape and since you have a relatively loose curl (in ref. to mine) I would imagine that your top like mine would be even looser, esp. with the weight of your relaxed hair pulling it down, making it appear straighter.

I don't really know what to tell you except, that when you eventually cut off the relaxed ends, your hair will have more spring from not being weighed down by the relaxed hair and will curl more, but the front just might never be as curly as the middle and back.

Re: Transitioners/Naturals...WTF is up with my cur

i doubt ur ruining ur curl pattern...ur hair probably just straightens temporarily from being pulled back....after I wear a bun or a ponytail, most of my hair is straight...
And congrats on eight months...im in my ninth month (I hadnt realized it)...happy growing!

Re: Transitioners/Naturals...WTF is up with my cur

It must be from pulling it back, I have experienced that too. Maybe wetting it more with water and using less gel will help. I don't think pulling it back will permanantly straighten it.

Re: Transitioners/Naturals...WTF is up with my cur

I agree with lsubabiedee. I think your hair is just straightening itself out. My hair does something similar and sometimes I find it annoying b/c I want waves all over. But I think that my hair has a lot of elasticity and will straighten right on out when I pull it into a ponytail esp in certain sections.
Congrats on your 8th month!

Re: Transitioners/Naturals...WTF is up with my cur

i have the same problem. it waves loosely when wet but when pulled back or combed out it stays straight. if anyone has a solution let me know. What i have been doing lately is finger combing that section and scrunching with gel to wave it back up since its probably the brushing, combing and tension from the ponytails thats straightening it out.
