I tried to do a braidout last night. I washed it conditioned it and then I applied some NTM leave in serum. I then mixed distilled water, NTM serum and a tiny bit of some humectress I had left, shook it up and sprayed my hair as I braided it up and put the rods on the ends. I sat under the dryer for about 45min to an hour and then I went to bed. It ended up looking ok when I took it out the next morning but it was still very damp and I know when you take them out and your hair is still wet it causes it to frizz up. So I had to go to work and I didn't want to go to work with my hair like that so I just rinse it out in the shower and combed it back into a ponytail. I was going to go ahead and flat iron it and call it a day but I am transitioning and I'm so tired of wearing my hair straight. I want to attempt to do the braid out again when I get home. My hair is about 80% dry now but I want to rebraid it and still get a smooth braidout. Would y'all suggest that I rewet it a little but not to the point that it is soaking wet and start from there? I need some suggestions ladies! I'm trying to get this braid out thing straight so I can do them all of the time. I'm transitioning and this is discouraging me. Also can anybody suggest a good detangler because my CON ultra moisturizing poo and lustrasilk aloe super detangling is not doing the job. I'm 3 months post relaxer so I guess that new growth is starting to overpower the relaxed hair a little more.

I do braidouts on airdry or dry hair. When I tried braidouts on wet/damp hair, it doesnt turn out right.
Also when taking down the braids, make sure you oil your fingers before taking them down to cut down on frizz and to give your hair some shine. ;)

Hey, that's a good idea. I've not done any braidouts or twistouts yet, but I'll keep this advice in mind for whenever I do them.

I usually wear braidouts 90% of the time; this style has made transitioning so much easier. I mostly do braidouts on wet hair and I use Lottabody, which IMO (for me) holds the style longer and my hair is not dry and feels soft with a smooth look. On a few occasions, I have used Lottabody to rewet my hair a little to rebraid and this has also worked as well, if your hair takes longer to dry you may want to try it this way...;)

A good detangler is Pantene Instantly Detangles (light spray conditioner)...I love this stuff, it does just what it says, instantly detangles. :)

I totally agree with Poohbear, when taking down the braids, make sure you oil your fingers before taking them down to cut down on frizz and to give your hair some shine.

Chinagem, I got a lot of my braidout tips from Peachtree off an old thread. :D

Also when I do braidouts, I use S-Curl for each section that I braid and then apply oil on my ends. About an inch of my braid is left unbraided. I wrap an end paper around the end and roll the braid (about a 1/4 to 1/3 of the way up) with a perm rod. ;)
