Thanks to Tracy I have suffered NO damage with my highlights. Here is my problem, I wanted to space my color and relaxer at least four weeks apart. I called to my an appointment only to find out I should have called a month ago. The earliest I can get my color done is the 28 of June. Well I am leaving for Florida on the 10th of July. I want to look cute, but I I don't want to be bald! Is a week apart to close?

You're supposed to relax first, wait at least 2 weeks, then color.

last year i colored then waited 6 weeks to relax and i turned out fine..

Any more input ladies! Either way I go my relaxer and color processes will be 1 week apart. My hair is very thick and healthy should I risk it our should I just slap a little perm around the edges and call it a day. I hear the heat in Florida is going to be a killer, so should I even bother?

If you're putting 6 weeks in between, that's fine, but the general rule is to relax first, then color. Putting relaxer on freshly colored hair can be a recipe for disaster.

Why r u worried about going bald??? Did u want to relaxer before u go on vacation???

i think a week apart is too close together. i would get the relaxer and if you just want to freshen up your color use a semi perm color. semi perm colors can even be done on the same day as the relaxer. then when you return from your vacation get your "real" color done.

You're not supposed to do a chemical process on top of a freshly done chemical process, period. It doesn't matter which goes first; that's why you should wait around 4wks in btwn either process. It doesn't really matter which you do first, just the time in btwn in which you do them.

IMO I would just get it permed: poofy roots in the humidity is so NOT cute!

When I got back from vacation, that's when I would get my highlights. I would NOT under any circumstances relax/color w/in a wk of each other!!!
