Too risky?

I can't speak for the rest of you, but sometimes I've bought certain products thinking they were good when they really weren't. Is one ingredient really bad enough to ruin a whole product? Or is it too much to risk?

For me it depends on which ingredients are listed first on a product. Usually the main ingredients in a product are at the beginning of the list and are therefore more potent than those products listed towards the end of the list.
So if you find something that has Mineral Oil as it's first ingredient, it has more Mineral Oil than a product that has that ingredient listed last and therefore the latter product shouldn't be as pore-clogging.

I have to agree with Isis. OP, I guess I need you to be a little more specific.

I'm no expert, but I think it depends on the product, too. Like I have Oil Sheen w/ mineral oil in it, but I only use a quick spray of oil sheep right after a roller-set and that's it, so it's not a big deal. But, I wouldn't buy a daily moisturizer with mineral oil in it.

Well okay so I bought "Africa's Best: Castor Oil" and I thought it was going to be a GOOD product BECAUSE it was Castor oil. But reading the ingredients today I saw the first ingredient was Petrolatum [ :perplexed ] . The rest of the ingredients looked pretty good. Part of this is just me being cheap but is it really too risky to use?

I know what works on me, what doesn't. I don't really care too much about mineral oil, but when a products 2nd ingredient is alcohol... Oh man do I pay for it with bad hair days. I just stay away from that.

My daughter likes that product. I don't know if it works on my hair, but I prefer to just have real castor oil in my hair. You can buy a bottle of castor oil at the pharmacy for like $4 bucks and its 100% real castor oil.

Try it and if it doesn't work you can take it back if you bought it at CVS.

Lol okay. thanks.

Personally, I don't use anything with Mineral or Petrolatum oils in it. I avoid them like the plague BUT I think there are others on here that do use it occassionally. Hopefully, more will chime in.

It just reminds me of grease wc/ never did anything for my hair and I'm working on getting it healthy right now plus transitioning.

Sorry, I couldn't be of more help.

Yep. The only thing that some folks might have a problem with is the lanolin, but the since it is so far down the list it might not be that bad. It kind of like coats your hair sealing in any moisture and preventing any from getting in, but if you clarify you should be good. Oh the paraben is another thing that stands out, but that is if you think parabens cause cancer. But, pretty much everything has parabens and it is towards the bottom of the list so it's not that bad. I honestly would use this complex if it worked well on my hair. I don't see anything majorly wrong with it, but if the lanolin was towards the top of the list I wouldn't use it....I see nothing but great oils. Nice buy. How much? How many ounces?

I don't use products with mineral oil because I get painful bumps on my scalp when I do. I have two products that I really like that have petroleum. Petroleum also causes me some problems but it takes longer for petroleum to clog up my scalp. I only use these sparingly and only if I'm washing my hair within a day or two after using.

I think Paraffin Oil is Mineral Oil. As long as you are not sensitive/allergic to it, the ingredients look good.
