Today, I went for a check-up, and my nurse read on my chart that I was taking biotin, ultranourishair, and a multi-vitamin. She started flippin' out, she was like, you only need one multi-vitamin. I told her I used them for hair growth, and she asked me if I had considered oils for my scalp. I told her I use different natural and essential oils. She told me she had her own "natural mix" that she used for her scalp, but she said she could not tell me because she is going to bottle it, and she just knew I was going to take her idea! I was lookin at her like

...lol. The sad thing was I don't think she was jokin. She kept mumbling under her breath "I can't believe she is taking all them vitamins" She was an older black woman, and I was trying to be respectful, I finally told her that my primary care DOCTOR, had approved my vitamin "overdose", and she just g

ot quiet after that. Oh and she told me not to be on the Atkins diet...plain and simple, and she told me I needed to buy a bra one size bigger! She was just coming out of nowhere with her statements, and left it like, "do this because I am right". It was a crazy visit ya'll.

My mother took a lot more than you and she's a health nut (and also was a nutritionist). As long as it's been approved by someone you trust you should be ok. On the other hand that nurse sounds like she's got quite a personality lol

Sounds like she definitely stepped over the line...It is the nurse's responsibility to take down the information for the DOCTOR to evaulated and give advice on...if you asked her a question, then fine...but to say "Dont do this...or dont do that..." when she is not your physician, is not her place.

Side note: My primary physician took me off of all but one blood pressure medicine because of how well I did on the Atkins diet. This was after cholesterol readings and kidney function test.

I'm just curious, how did her hair look? I wonder if her "natural mix" is any good?

Denali,
I could tell she had a lot of breakage, and I thought she was kind of ignorant to just brush off the idea that vitamins would help my hair grow, since hair does grow from the inside out! I hate it when people are soo stuck in their own ways that they won't even listen to anything else.

Pookey-my dad also got taken off some of his bp meds after being on atkins...I don't waste my breath with people who I know are not trying to hear me! I will at least take what you have to say with some consideration, but she was soo blatantly opposed any idea that she herself did not conjure up!

I'm sorry guys but that Atkins diet is very hard on the kidneys! Folks just need to use common sense these days and not buy into these fad diets!

Again..."for some"...my brother has been on the Atkins Diet now for 1 and a half years...Eats aproximatly 120 carbs a day...no kidney issues. Neither myself or my mother and sister and sister-in-law have any kidney issues and have been on the diet for some time. I dont have the facts in front of me...but I do remember reading that many who experienced kidney stones or gout with the Atkins diet were...attempting to stay on the Induction section of the diet too long...and were eating NO carbs...which is not the Atkins Diet. On the Atkins diet you eat a small amount of carbs for a brief period and gradually increase your carb intake to your optimum amount.

It seems to me...like with Atkins, or Surge, or anything else that people try...it works for some, but not for all. It does not mean the product or diet is a danger...it simply means it does not work for everyone.

It would be proper to start another thread if it is really worth discussion (I think it has been discussed before)...since really the post was not about the Atkins Diet...but the nurses comment that the poster was taking too many vitamins. My apologies HoneyJamz, if this side point hijacked the purpose of your thread...but I could not help but to clarify.

You should just continue your vitamin regiment and don't even give this nurse another thought. She sounds like she is so set in her ways that you would never turn her around. This is why I do not talk too much about hair outside of this board.
