Hi, ladies! I'm in a bit of a dilemma over what I want to do with my hair. I need a big change and was hoping that I could get some opinions and advice over what I should do. (Sorry for the uber long post, I'm just trying to put out enough info for you guys to help a girl out, feel free to skip to the last two paragraphs to get the gist of this thread)

Here's some background, I've been on this forum for years and have had alot of ups and downs but I've been at a standstill and I think I just may be one of those people who don't do well with relaxers.... I mean my hairs in pretty decent shape but not good up to my standards quite yet.
Now here's the thing that I'm trying to decide, if I want to transition or not. If I do go through with it, I plan on wearing it flat ironed most of the time. But here's my issue.

- There's a hairdo I'm hellbent on getting, but I'm not sure if it would work out while transitioning. Basically, it's just lightening/ bleaching and putting a rinse on the underside of my bangs (not the entire bangs, just the area that touches my face), which I want cut thicker.

So basically ladies, I want to have the above hair style while transitioning unless it sounds like a catastrophic idea. I'd love any honest advice and tips as to how I should go about maintaining my hair in the above scenario. My last relaxer was in October of last year. I also plan on wearing braids and weaves to help me out occasionally.

hum...sound interesting...

do you have any sample images of the color and how it looks on someones head...(ps...do a celebrity google and see if you find a similar style) .....hard to say...sounds pretty be really careful. Why don't you test a small discreet area to see if it will be a match for you. Have you ever had your hair that light before? I don't really know alot about bleaching. I hear that it is extremely harsh on hair of any kind, especially ours.

Hi stella, I guess I should clarify that I don't plan on bleaching too light at all, just light enough to be able to color it a darkish purple or blue.
Plus it's not a large amount of hair that would be colored, imagine sectioning your bangs in two equal sections so that theres a layer closest to your face and another covering it? I'd want the area closest to my face to be colored and the outer part covering it so that the color sorta peeks out.
I hope I didn't confuse you more :spinning:. I'll look for some pics. I do have experience with dealing with colored hair, I'm just more concerned with how I would style it and if I would look too crazy as it's transitioning.... This being said, my bangs grow fairly quickly so I'm not too worried of growing out the color.
Anywho, thanks for responding to my post so quick! ETA:Here's the closest pic I could find to the general idea I was going for, I'm definately not bleaching my hair like that though!

I say relax wait two weeks bleach and color rock that look and if you get tired of it protective style and transition, have fun with your hair enjoy!! post pics

Thanks kat, I think I'm too far into my stretch to go back to relaxers, but I'm still pondering. And pondering. I think I mentioned that I plan on wearing my hair straight as a natural like I did most of my life. But thanks, I'll consider all my options!

Lightening my hair wtih it already relaxed was the worse thing I've ever done to my hair. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Just last week one of my co-workers showed up with 1/2 her hair gone. She told me she was trying to color her relaxed hair lighter.:nono:

If you're going natural anyhow, you might want to wait till all the relaxed hair is gone before lightening.

you won't have to bleach or lighten that hard to get purple or blue, i've done both (but i bleached the hell out of my hair :lachen:, but thats another story)

get what you want, it's hair, it'll grow back. just try to limit the damage as much as possible

...man maybe i'm not the best person to be taking advice from:look:

Jazala- That's a scary story! Luckily nothing like that ever happened to me when I bleached years ago....

Rei- You really don't have to bleach that much to get blue or purple? I didn't plan on bleaching much, but how light or what volume would be okay in your opinion?

Regardless of my decision, I plan on getting silky dreds put in to give my hair a break from manipulation for awhile :yep:. I think I'm just bored with my look honestly because now I'm considering kat's idea of just relaxing again  with ORS Lye, waiting then dying after a few weeks. But for now, silky dreads for me soon!
