I got my hair relaxed this past Saturday but it's shedding. On a scale from 1 to 10, maybe a 5. Is it too early to do a protein treatment?

Correct me if I am wrong. But I thought protein was used for hair that is breaking to strenghten it. Shedding is where hair is pushed out with the root, a natural process eveyone hairs go through a certain point.(Hair with white buld at the end)

We might both stand corrected. Anyway I have the same question I have relaxed my hair last Thursday, its not shedding or breaking. But I think I may need a protein treatment to give it a little bit of strength after my relaxer.

I may go with a mild protein conditioner under heat

Protein is for breakage and not shedding. Protein isn't going to help your hair stop falling out from the root... it can only protect and strengthen your hair.... which helps with breakage.

Are you sure your hair wasn't overprocessed? I got my hair relaxed and overprocessed, and my hair was coming out in the sink as I was rinsing...it continued to shed regardless of what I put on my hair (protein, moisture, grease, leave-ins, you name it). Needless to say, I ended up getting like 3 inches cut off because of that (in Jan 2002). My hair had never been that short! The style was cute though...

My point is that overprocessing (putting the relaxer on already relaxed hair, and/or leaving it on too long) can cause shedding. Its not too early for a protein treatment because I was always told to use protein and then moisture subsequently as the after relaxer conditioners. Stylists that I've had in the past are bad about doing that, and are bad about deep conditioning in general, which is why I will not go to the salon ever again...except for a style on for my wedding someday

I plan to do a protein treatment tonight and I got a relaxer on Saturday also. I usually wash my hair on Wed & Sat, but I started working out this week and need to wash it. I regularly do a weekly light protein treatment w/ Aubrey's GPB treatment but this time I will use Emergencee then moist cond.

Jewell: No, my hair isn't overprocessed. I THINK it's loose hairs or maybe it's my season for shedding. I don't know, just looking for some suggestions.

I go through seasons of shedding, but they are either helped or hindered by the products I use! This could be it. Just baby your hair in the meantime to see if it stops.
