Too broke for Phyto this time - and I might not go back!

I can't believe I'm saying this - as much as I love PhytoRelaxer - but I've been so broke I couldn't afford it or my usual fallback (Mizani at JC Penney salon) - and my sister told me I should try Soft N Beautiful Botanicals (Coarse) - about 6 bucks a box (got it at Wal-Mart for 7, saw it at Sally today for 4) - and as scared as I was - since it took me 2 years to get up the nerve to try even Phyto at home - I said what the heck, things are so bad for me right now who cares if my hair falls out - and I tried it - and I can't believe I'm saying this but I might like it even BETTER than Phyto!!!

I did NOT like the leave-in that came with it - I rinsed it out a day later and used my own conditioners - but it's been a week and my hair is so shiny. A little straighter that I usually like it but it's not that "flat" straight so it's okay. I have breakage because I haven't done any real conditioning in a while - breakage is not at the relaxing line but way down in near ends so I don't think it's the relaxer. I'll let you know if anything changes after I wash this weekend but so far I love it and I can't believe how little it cost. I can't stop playing with my hair -I had a lot more growth than I'd realized since it had been so long since I'd relaxed.

I may not go back even after my money gets better!!!!

I'm so happy that you had great results, longhair1! :weird:

I haven't used Phyto nor Soft & Beautiful Botanicals relaxer. I use Soft & Beautiful No-Lye Relaxer and love it! Have you ever used it? If so, how would you compare it to the S & B Botanicals relaxer? TIA!

I used soft and beautiful botanicals no-lye before I switched to Profectiv no-lye. It's a good relaxer, and you're right, the leave-in is garbage. I never used it. But I must say, I prefer Profectiv. ;) If you are still shopping around for a new relaxer and dont mind changing, I suggest you try it. It costs maybe ten bucks a box (I cant remember at the moment).

Goldensensation,

What is it you like about the Profectiv relaxer? I used Vitale Mo'Body a couple of days ago and hated it. I did get some suggestions on using the Vitale Life & Body but it's not readily available to me, so I was thinking of using Silk Elements Megasilk Lye or Profective No-lye.

Because Profectiv is no-lye, have you noticed any drying of your hair from the no-lye relaxer?TIA

I've always used no lye, but with the profectiv no-lye, I've noticed that my hair is thicker, has more body and way more shine. There are so many things that I love about their relaxer. Firstly, the touch-ups are pre-measured for you. The relaxer itself has oil in it (mega growth) and I think that this contributes to the shine. The mousse is the best thing ever. They were the first ones to have it and it really leaves the hair feeling luxurious. I keep the neutralizing mousse on for longer than they say because I am really anal about the neutralization process. Everything that it comes with is usable (though you may want to purchase extra breakfree or mousse).

Thanks Goldensensation,

One more question....the packaging looks different from what I've seen in the BSS. the one I saw is in a sort of triangle box. Is the formula the same? TIA

Have you ever tried the Orgaic Root Stimulator Olive Oil relaxer? If so, how does it compare to Profectiv?

Mestiza - I've never used any other brand besides Phyto and this Botanicals - but the Botanicals is Soft N Beautiful No-Lye Botanicals - green box - maybe it's the same thing?

Goldensensation - thanks for the rec on Profectiv - if I EVER get enough nerve to try something else I might do that - I'm not kidding, it took me 2 YEARS of reading the boards and getting my nerve up before I tried the Phyto, so check back with me in another couple! (but it does sound good - I'm intrigued by the oil in the relaxer....)

Oh, the box only comes in a triangle. The image I posted was a promotional thing from their website. If you do decide to purchase the relaxer, make sure you purchase the one with two touch ups and not four. The one with four is for salons- it has 2 regulars and 2 supers and doesnt (to my knowledge) have the neutralizer and conditioner.
